TURIN, New York (WWNY) - A 5-year-old is dead after a farming accident in Lewis County over the weekend. Sheriff’s deputies say that a person was backing up a skid-steer on East Road in Turin early Sunday morning and didn’t see a 5-year-old boy who approached the machine from behind.

Police: Tractor hits, kills 5-year-old boy in Lewis County

TURIN, N.Y. (WWTI) — A young boy was killed over the weekend following an agricultural accident in Lewis County. According to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, on September 19, an individual was operating a skid steer while attempting to unload a large bale of hay. While backing, the operator failed to see a five-year-old boy approaching the machine from the rear. The tractor then hit the boy with the rear tire.

Tyler Christman a JV football player from Carthage, New York suffered a serious brain injury during a Comets’ game against West Genesee on Friday, September 17. "He is bleeding in the frontal cortex of his brain and has massive brain swelling." Faith Parks, Christman's aunt explained on Facebook. "He has slight eye response and a cough reflex."

The cat as sent to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center for testing on September 7, 2021 and positive results were reported the following day.
