Suspect charged after shooting victim during argument in Florence Co.

FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — A Lake City man has been charged with attempted murder in connection to a shooting in the Effingham area of Florence County. Zachary William Full, 27, was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly shot a victim multiple times with a rifle, resulting in the victim sustaining two gunshot wounds, according to investigators.

North Carolina Woman Charged With Kidnapping Her Own Child

A North Carolina woman was charged with kidnapping her own child in the city of Florence. The Florence Police Department said 43 year old Samantha Veney was visiting her 6 year old child on Wednesday during a supervised visit with the Department of Social Services. At some point during that visit she got upset, grabbed the child and ran away across David McLeod Boulevard. The two were located about an hour and a half later on Woody Jones Boulevard. Officers say Veney was reportedly violent towards officers during her arrest and head-butted one in the face. She was charged with kidnapping as well as assault and battery of an officer. Veney is behind bars at the Florence County Detention Center and has been denied bond.

Citizen complaints lead to drug bust, arrest in Florence County

FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — One person has been arrested and now faces drug-related charges following citizen complaints. Based on an investigation following citizen complaints, on Thursday, July 29, Florence County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Investigators, assisted by the FCSO SWAT team, said they executed a narcotics search warrant at Bay Lane in Coward.

Section of Darlington road being named for Patrol’s commander

A section of Society Hill Road in Darlington County is being named after a Darlington native who is now the first African-American commander of the S.C. Highway Patrol. A ceremony was held Saturday at Darlington Raceway to dedicate that section of road to Col. Christopher N. Williamson. Col. Christopher N. Williamson Road will run from the intersection of Society Hill Road and Greenfield Road to its intersection with S.C. 34. The Legislature passed a resolution approving the change. The resolution says: “Whereas, Col. Christopher N. Williamson, a native of Darlington, attended Rosenwald High School in Society Hill, where he excelled in academics and athletics. It was his athletic prowess that earned him a track scholarship to Fayetteville State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1985. Upon graduation, he returned home and began a career in law enforcement with the S.C. Department of Corrections, followed by a stint with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Department; and “Whereas, in 1988 he joined the S.C. Highway Patrol, completing the Highway Patrol Academy in May of that year. Through hard work and dedicated service to the people of this great state, he was promoted to the rank of corporal in 1998, lieutenant in 2001, captain in 2003, lieutenant colonel in 2011, and he served as deputy commander of the Highway Patrol; and “Whereas, on June 30, 2017, Williamson was bestowed the honor of being named commander of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, becoming the first African-American commander to lead this law enforcement agency; and “Whereas, during his storied law enforcement career, he earned a master’s degree in Clinical and Behavioral Counseling from Webster University. He went on to found Williamson Forward Progress Youth Services Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides services to youths and their families that include mentoring, discipline, behavioral intervention, and anger management, among others; and “Whereas, he is married to Deloris Williamson and together they are the proud parents of two daughters, Krissy and Daysha. They also have two granddaughters, Kristina and Kailyn. A strong believer in serving his community, he is a member of numerous organizations and serves on several boards statewide; and “Whereas, it would be fitting and proper to recognize this son of South Carolina for his lifelong commitment to serving and protecting the citizens of this state by having a highway interchange named in his honor.”

Sweet Pea is a 10-month-old tortoiseshell, female domestic shorthair kitten. She is spunky and full of energy. Sweet Pea is current on all of her age-appropriate shots, has been spayed and tested negative for Feline Leukemia and AIDs. She had an eye issue when she was a young kitten, but it was treated, and it has not slowed her down at all. Her eye remains cloudy, but the vet is confident that she has vision in both eyes. Florence Police Searching for ‘Bubble Bandits’

Florence Police are looking for two people in connection with the recent bubble bandit case. Captain Mike Brandt said the men in these photos are wanted for questioning regarding the vandalism of fountains in the Florence area on Wednesday. According to police the men added an unknown substance to fountains which caused them to overflow with bubbles and will require costly maintenance to repair them. 2 die in head-on wreck in Sumter County

A driver and passenger died in a two-vehicle wreck on Lynches River Road in Lynchburg on Wednesday afternoon. Cameron Alexis Ard, 22, of Lake City, was the restrained driver of the vehicle that crossed left of center striking another vehicle head-on, Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker said. He was pronounced dead on scene.
