Tulane loses Saturday slugfest by run-rule at Wichita State

WICHITA, Ks. – Despite an offensive bounce back, the Tulane University baseball team (30-21-1, 10-10) fell by a final score of 18-8 to Wichita State (18-32, 7-13) in eight innings on Saturday afternoon. The Green Wave collected 12 hits and pushed eight runs across the plate, but a pair of big innings by the Shockers offense proved to be too much to overcome for Tulane.

Pope John Paul II’s George Arata has signed a letter of intent to attend Tulane and play football for the Green Wave. “A few months ago, I was contacted by Florida State and ULM and where I had always wanted to go to college, and I didn’t know if it was possible, was Tulane,” Arata said. “I came into contact with the Tulane coaches, they invited me up to campus for a visit. I went there, I loved everything I saw, it’s right next to home, so that’s where I can kind of see myself. My family, a lot of my dad’s family went to Tulane and I could definitely see myself there and that’s why I wanted to be there. I also like the program they had at Tulane. I liked all of the coaches there and it just seemed like the best fit for me.”

Brylan Lanier is heading to the Big Ten to continue his college football career. The former Alabama walk-on defensive back announced his pledge to Indiana on Friday. Lanier, a Cottondale, Alabama native, was a 3-star recruit in the class of 2021. He originally enrolled at Georgia State but left to join Nick Saban’s program as a walk-on. Lanier’s 2021 scholarship offers included Southern Miss, Tulane and UAB.
