Arizona AD apologizes for football stadium entry delays, promises improvement for NAU game

Following a less-than-desirable debut of new security measures and a mobile ticketing system at Arizona Stadium, UA athletic director Dave Heeke has issued a formal apology. “I want to apologize to those who were unable to fully enjoy that exceptional experience,” Heeke said in his Wildcat Wednesday newsletter. “We fell short in our obligation to provide you that experience. For that we sincerely apologize. We did not deliver.”

This week's high school football matchups, locations and predictions

SALPOINTE CATHOLIC (1-0) at Cienega (1-1) When: 7 p.m. What to expect: Cienega bounced back from its season-opening loss to Peoria Sunrise Mountain with a commanding 34-7 win over Sierra Vista Buena — the first of the Justin Argraves. Linebacker Ritchie McCormack led the way on defense with 15 tackles, three stops for loss and a sack, while the Bobcats’ secondary tabbed three interceptions and four pass breakups. Now Cienega’s defense will face an offense that has arguably the top quarterback in the state in Treyson Bourguet, who will be protected by a wall of linemen with Division I potential. On the other side, Cienega’s offensive line will have to contain Salpointe’s three top defenders: 6-foot-5, 225-pound sophomore edge rusher Elijah Rushing and linebackers Davian Miranda Carrasco and Joey Sumlin, the team’s two leading tacklers. Thursday’s game has all the makings of a classic high school football game; we like the Lancers to outlast Cienega 45-28.

Saturday’s Game Between NAU and Arizona A Must-Win For Both Teams

The outcomes of the Arizona Wildcats’ and Northern Arizona Lumberjacks’ respective football seasons may very well rest on the result of Saturday’s game in Tucson. The two winless squads, each fresh on the heels of a painful blowout loss, will do battle at Arizona Stadium in hopes of avoiding an 0-3 start to the year. Arizona enters as the favorite despite its active fourteen-game losing streak, but Flagstaff’s finest have no plans to let their cross-state opponents walk away with an easy win.
