St. Pat's boys, girls basketball defeats Sutherland in season opener

The St. Pat’s boys and girls basketball teams didn’t need a lot of time to put Sutherland away in Saturday’s season opener. The girls let the 3-pointers fly in the first half, and the boys used hustle and aggressiveness on both sides of the ball in the first half to put the Sailors away.

Season Recap: Hershey Volleyball

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The Hershey Panthers came out slow to open the 2021 season as they lost their first four games. That did little to deter the players as they would go on to finish 19-8 overall, have a record winning streak, take second place at the SPVA conference tournament and win their most games since 2018.

Anselmo-Merna, Sandhills Valley split wins in Stapleton

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - A day after the Coyotes swept Paxton on the road, the same could not be said on Friday as they would settle for a 1-1 night at Sandhills Valley. The road team was dominant in the girls’ game. They only allowed 13 points in the first half and gained the win 68-29. The Lady Mavs only scored two points in the fourth, both by way of free throws.

Sutherland prepares to cruise into Christmas Dec. 15

Sutherland will hold a “Cruisin’ into Christmas” event for the second straight year. The cruise, sponsored by the Sutherland Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Dec. 15. Those who are interested are asked to meet and line up vehicles in the football parking lot at the school at 6:30 p.m.

Hershey Schools says giving is better than receiving

(KNOP) - Giving is better than receiving at least that is the mindset of Hershey Public Schools at Christmas Time as they fill up empty shoe boxes full of holiday cheer for children all around the world. Michalee Brownawell is head of the Operation Christmas Child efforts at Hershey Schools and is excited to send Christmas cheer to kids all over the globe.

John Granville Sexson, age 74, of Hershey, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at his daughter’s home outside of Adams, Nebraska. John was born May 17, 1947, in Grant to John E. and Ardith (Norman) Sexson, the second of four children. He graduated from Grant High School in May 1965.

ALLIANCE — A dozen young women from across the state gathered to compete in the Best of the West Competition Saturday in Alliance, according to a press release. A number of area candidates walked away with titles, including Katelyn Bowers of North Platte, Miss Fur Trade Days 2022; Katie Hoatson of Hershey, Miss Chadron 2022; and Alexandra Thompson of North Platte, Miss Alliance’s Outstanding Teen 2022.

He was born March 15, 1926 in Sutherland, Nebraska to Wilbur G. (Bill) and Faye M. Dority Mitchem. His early years were spent on farms and in rural schools in the Paxton, Roscoe, and Ogallala, Neb. areas. The family moved to Perkins County in 1938 where Gene finished his education, graduating from Perkins County High School in 1942.
