DeSantis rally for J.D. Vance moved to Liberty Metroplex

A rally for Republican U.S. Senate candidate J.D. Vance featuring Florida Governor ron DeSantis has been moved to the Metroplex in Liberty. Party organizers originally said the event would be at the Maronite Center in Youngstown. Those plans had to be scrapped because the church holds its yearly parish festival around that time.

Athens School Board votes unanimously against football co-op with Sayre

ATHENS, P.A. (WENY) - The Athens School Board voted unanimously on Tuesday to deny Sayre's request to co-op for football. The Athens Board read a written opinion from Athletic Director, J.B Sullivan, along with members of the community expressing their opinions and concerns including Athens student-athletes having to sacrifice two years of an opportunity to compete in District Playoffs, as well as playing time.

A fire broke out when they were making meth. They fled, leaving their grandmother to die.

A Corning man who, along with his brother, started a meth lab fire that killed their grandmother in May 2019, has been found guilty of second-degree manslaughter and sentenced to spend time in state prison. Justin Gause, 24, was sentenced by Steuben County Court Judge Patrick F. McCallister to three to nine years in state prison, according to Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker.    ...

Police: Steuben County Murder Victim Was Strangled

An autopsy has confirmed the woman murdered in her Steuben County apartment last Friday was strangled. Police allege that 29-year-old Brett Heffner used some type of cord or rope to kill Keli Collins inside of the 26-year-old’s Corning apartment. Corning Police said Collins was found unresponsive in her residence and all attempts to bring her back to life failed. She and Heffner lived in the same apartment complex and knew each other.

Southern Tier Network joining efforts to build 35-mile open-access internet for Nichols

NICHOLS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Nichols have been named as one of four communities in New York to take part in the state's ConnectALL program. The program is designed to bring affordable and high-speed internet to unserved or underserved rural communities across New York. Southern Tier Network, based in Corning, will be heading the project. They seek to build a 35-mile, open access network infrastructure to connect the Nichols community to the world-wide-web.
