Huge drug seizure made

In May, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office began wrapping up a seven-month investigation regarding the trafficking and sale of fentanyl and other deadly drugs. The first sequence of arrests occurred during the late night hours of May 6 when sheriff’s office investigators intercepted a tractor trailer on US 220 Alternate near Windblow Road, Candor. Upon searching the tractor trailer they discovered 14 kilograms or almost 31 pounds of cocaine, valued at a half-million dollars as well as nearly $300,000 in cash. Deputies arrested Fabian Hernandez, age 33, of Pharr, Texas. Hernandez was charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to sell and deliver, and maintaining a vehicle to keep controlled substances. Hernandez is being held in the Montgomery County Detention Center under a $4,006,000 bond. The drugs, U.S. currency and tractor trailer were seized as part of this investigation. Detectives are continuing their investigation with federal partners to have the matter prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
