High-speed chase of Statesville shooting suspects ends in Mecklenburg County

A high-speed chase that started in Iredell County ended with a crash and arrest in north Charlotte Thursday. The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said its deputies responded to a vehicle traveling south on Interstate 77, but upon locating it, the driver refused to stop. A pursuit began and deputies were notified the vehicle was a suspect vehicle involved in a recent shooting in Statesville.

Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Catawba County

On Thursday, September 22, at approximately 6:15 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Catawba County on Rifle Range Road. A 2021 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was leaving a private driveway and attempted to turn left onto Rifle Range Road. A 2001 Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle was traveling north on Rifle Range Road. The driver of the truck failed to yield the right of way and collided with the motorcycle on Rifle Range Road. The driver of the Chevrolet, Eddie Huffman, 58, of Conover, was not injured. The driver of the Harley-Davidson, Gregory Allen Propst, 21, of Conover, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Huffman has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle. Rifle Range Road was closed for approximately two hours during the on-scene investigation.

Statesville scouts learn about rule of law

Todd Carver, District 7 Chairman from Iredell Statesville Schools, came out to meet with the Arrow of Light Den and Pack 607. He is a retired Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputy and helped fulfill one of the Arrow of Light den’s rank requirements, rule of law. He also answered questions from other Scouts in Pack 607, helping them fulfill their requirements of speaking about issues in their community. Pack 607 is chartered by Concord Presbyterian Church in Statesville.
