Resurfacing work to begin soon on SD Highway 53 in Tripp County

The South Dakota Department of Transportation says resurfacing work is scheduled to begin soon on S.D. Highway 53 in Tripp County. The $4.9 million construction project on Highway 53 extends from the U.S. Highway 18 junction southward for 16 miles. Culvert repair work has been underway for several weeks and is nearing completion. Work including guard rail upgrades, bridge end repair, and erosion repair will begin before the end of August 2022.

Names Released in Tripp County Fatal Crash

Two people from Duchess, Alberta, Canada have been identified as those who died Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash east of Colome. Five other people were injured. Preliminary crash information indicates a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup was westbound on U.S. Highway 18 when it crossed the centerline and collided head on with an eastbound 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 pickup pulling a cattle trailer.

UPDATE: Victims of deadly head-on crash in Tripp County identified

COLOME, S.D.–Two people from the province of Alberta, Canada have been identified as those killed last weekend in a head-on collision a mile east of Colome, South Dakota. The South Dakota Highway Patrol says forty year-old Darsy Larson and 14 year-old Koye Larson of Duchess, Alberta were passengers in a pickup truck that collided head-on with another pickup Sunday morning on U.S. Highway 18.

20 year old man from Winner killed in early Tuesday morning accident in Tripp County

A 20 year old man from Winner has been identified as the person killed early Tuesday morning (May 17, 2022) in a one-vehicle crash three miles northwest of Winner. The South Dakota Highway Patrol’s preliminary crash information indicates Fredrick Whiting, Jr. was driving a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup northbound on 314th Avenue around 1:20am he lost control near the intersection of 275th Street and 314th Avenue. The pickup rolled and Whiting, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bid awarded for SD Highway 53 construction project in Tripp County

The South Dakota Transportation Commission has approved the contractor for a nearly $5 million ($4.9 million) construction project to renovate SD Highway 53 in Tripp County. The contract for this project includes cold milling one inch from the current in-place asphalt concrete to restore profile and crown, placement of a new two-inch lift of asphalt surfacing over top of the milled surface, erosion repair, pipe repair and approach guardrail upgrades. The project begins on Highway 53 at the US Highway 18 junction and goes roughly eight miles west of Winner and 16 miles south.

Construction project underway on SD Highway 49 in Tripp and Lyman Counties

Work has begun on the reconstruction of SD Highway 49 in Tripp and Lyman Counties from the junction of SD Highway 44 to the junction of SD Highway 47. The South Dakota Department of Transportation says during construction, operations may reduce traffic to one lane with use of flaggers and a pilot car. Name released In Tripp County fatal crash

WINNER — The name of a 28-year-old Winner woman who died Saturday afternoon, Nov. 13, in a one-vehicle crash east of Winner has been released. According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, a 2012 Ford Edge was eastbound on U.S. Highway 18 when it went off the roadway, into the north ditch and hit a tree. Kari DeMers, the driver, was thrown from the vehicle. She was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
