Blood Drives in Traverse County

As the American Red Cross is dealing with a critical shortage of blood supplies statewide, two blood drives have been set this month in Traverse County. One will be today from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion in Browns Valley, 518 West Broadway. And another will be held 12 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 30 at the Sanford Wheaton Medical Center, 401 12th Street North in Wheaton.

MPCA Seeks Comment on Traverse County Permit

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is seeking public comment on a permit for Twelvemile Dairy, near Dumont, in Traverse County. The Discharge Elimination System permit would cover four total confinement barns that will house a total of 12,000 head of dairy cattle. Liquid manure generated by the animals will be stored within lined storage structures. Manure generated at the facility will be transferred and applied to surrounding cropland at agronomic rates. The preliminary determination to issue coverage is tentative.

A Traverse County man was sentenced Thursday, June 3 to four years of probation, local community confinement, and $416,389 in restitution, for his role in a wire fraud scheme. According to court documents, Bryan Dallas Crandall, 37, conspired with two employees of the Cenex Harvest States (CHS) grain elevator in Herman to manipulate the records of corn and soybeans delivered by Crandall on multiple occasions between 2013 and 2017.

Motor Vehicle Pursuit in Big Stone County

In the early hours of Sunday morning, the Big Stone County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a motor vehicle pursuit. A deputy sheriff was patrolling southbound on Highway 75 near 280th Street when he met a 2017 Chevy Silverado that was failing to maintain its lane. The deputy turned around and was attempting to make a traffic stop when it became apparent the vehicle had fled at a high rate of speed. The deputy confirmed the Silverado had reached speeds of 111 mph and initially was failing to stop.
