Dawn Smith named Menifee's Citizen of the Year

Dawn Smith, a 46-year resident of Menifee and longtime community volunteer, was honored by the City Council Wednesday as the Citizen of the Year. Smith serves as executive director of the Menifee Valley Community Cupboard, which serves families in need with food and supplies. She also was a founder of Arts Council Menifee and has been active in the Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce.

LOS ALAMITOS (CBSLA) — Hundreds of firefighters lined up at Cottonwood Church in Los Alamitos Friday to pay their final respects to one of their own, Jonathan Flagler, who died earlier this month in the line of duty. He was pulled from the burning home by his fellow firefighters from Fire Station 83 and rushed to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he died. Weekend Project on 91 Freeway Postponed Due to High Winds

A major road closure planned for this weekend in Riverside County was postponed due to strong winds. All westbound lanes on the 91 Freeway were to be shut down along a roughly 2-mile segment of the road in east Corona. The stretch of road was set to close Friday night and remain shut down through the weekend.

Firefighters, family and fiends gathered Friday to remember a 47-year-old Los Angeles County firefighter and father of two killed as he battled a house fire. The memorial service for Jonathan Flagler is being held at Cottonwood Church in Los Alamitos, where his widow told nearly a thousand mourners that she's lost her "best friend." A long line of firefighting colleagues saluted as the procession for Flagler passed under the U.S. flag suspended between two fire trucks on its way to the church.
