Toole County Student Drive Rolls On

Our Toole County Alliance for Youth continues its' school supply drive tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon/evening up in Sunburst. Sunburst students are invited to stop by the Sunburst Lutheran Church from 5:30, to 6:30, on a 1st come/1st supply basis as supplies ARE limited. Don't worry about a thing, but the youth, 5th to 12th grades, will be REQUIRED to sign a pledge to stay alcohol, tobacco & drug free! This program is based on need, NOT income.

This Monday’s “DRIVE’S For Shelby Students

Toole County Alliance for Youth along with their partners will be holding a school supply drive for our Toole County students this Monday, 8/8. Shelby students should report to the First Baptist Church Activity Center from 5, to 6:30, Monday evening. Don't worry about a thing...the school supply drive is based on need & NOT income, & it's on a "1st come/1st serve basis as supplies are limited. Youth 5th-12th will need to sign a pledge to stay alcohol, tobacco & drug free. Welcome back to another school year under our Montana Big Sky!

Toole County school supply drives scheduled for Aug. 8 and Aug. 10

August has arrived and with it “back to school” and all it entails. Toole County Alliance for Youth, along with some very generous sponsors and volunteers: First Baptist Church, Sunburst Lutheran Church, Seubert Insurance Company, KW Insurance, Sunburst Mercantile, Toole County DUI Task Force, Ben Taylor Inc., Edward Jones, MRC LLC, Gary McDermott, CPA, Lona’s Inc., Sagebrush Food Pantry, Friends of the Library, Northtown Drug, Shelby Paint and Hardware, Marias Veterinary Clinic, Leavitt Insurance Group, Kiwanis Club of Shelby, Alliance for Youth (Great Falls), Deb Schnee, Linda Lee and Sober Life Hi-Line Group, are excited to be able to help families prepare for students returning to school in Toole County by offering some assistance with free supplies.

Toole County 4-H Marias Fair results

The Toole County 4-H Marias Fair results are in and once again those participating at this year’s fair did a phenomenal job. When it came to Hen or Pullet, Alethea Smith was the Reserve Champion. Alethea also placed first in Junior Poultry Showmanship and Reserve Champion over-all. She also received third place high point over-all.

A Red Flag Warning now in effect until 9, o'clock, tonight (Tuesday.) The affected area incudes Eastern Glacier/Toole/Central/Eastern Pondera/Liberty, Hill & Blain Counties, Lewis & Clark National Forest Rocky Mountain Front, Choteau & Fergus Counties & Central & Eastern Lewis & Clark National Forest area. Today's (Tuesday's) temperatures are predicted to be between 85, & 90, with wind gusts up to 40 mph. It goes without saying that any & all new fire starts could be difficult to contain. NO burning means permits & open campfires. Ceremonial fire MUST be attended to at all times. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Please govern yourselves accordingly...

Toole County National Night Out events slated for Aug. 2

National Night Out (NNO), an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie, is returning to Toole County again this year at Aronow Park on Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. Music via DJ, various booths offering information on a variety of services available in the area and face painting are just a few things on the NNO agenda. This is a free event and all are encouraged to attend!

Retired lawman Vern Anderson is this year’s parade grand marshal

Montana Highway Patrolman for 19 years, Toole County Sheriff for 20, Little League and Babe Ruth baseball coach, junior high basketball coach, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and all around great guy, Vern Anderson has been selected as this year’s Grand Marshal for the Marias Fair Parade happening on Saturday, July 23.

Tomsheck named Conservationist of the Year

The Toole County Conservationist District (TCCD) would like to recognize Terry Tomsheck as Conservationist of the Year for 2021. Terry Tomsheck is a Toole County native and grew up on the family farm/ranch east of Sunburst. He and his family are long-time agriculture producers. He works closely with his brothers to raise a variety of crops and livestock. Terry and his brother, Rex, operated together for many years and grew small grains, as well as pulse crops. They have used technologies to apply variable rate fertilizer – a strategy that applies only what the crop zone needs according to yield potential while accounting for the nutrients available in the soils.

Montana Range Days (MRD) is the premier rangeland education program offered in Montana. This year marks its 45th year, dating back to 1977. Throughout its history, MRD has been hosted by communities across the Treasure State in two-year increments, the most recent being Dillon (Beaverhead County) and Red Lodge (Carbon County).

Remember, buzzed driving is drunk driving

This July 4th, as we celebrate America’s independence, the Toole County DUI Task Force and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) want to remind drivers that Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving. Unfortunately, too many people think that driving after a few drinks is acceptable. The numbers say otherwise: In 2020, more than 200 people were killed in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes over the 4th of July holiday period. That’s over 200 people who could have made it home if everyone had planned ahead for a sober ride.

Health Rocks Camp provides great experiences for Toole County kids

On Monday, June 6, 21 students in grades six through eight from Shelby and Sunburst embarked on a new adventure, Health Rocks Camp, held in the Flathead Valley at Darryl Fenner’s 4-H camp. There were five junior counselors along for the fun this year, each receiving 40 hours of community service credits. Junior counselors included Virgil Manthey of Kevin, Alison Nau of Sunburst, CC Parsons from Conrad, Evan Clarke of Shelby and camp assistant, Ginger Seifert, Shelby. Northern Transit Authority generously transported the participants to and from camp.

Load Up The Range Days Bus, Gus

The 45th Annual Montana Range Days, hosted by our Toole County Conservation District & the Natural Resources Conservation Service, will be loading up the buses tomorrow (Wednesday) morning & heading on out to visit & tour CHS, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Bar S Feedlot & Big Sky Wholesale Seeds here in Shelby. BTW, if you're working up a hunger, there'll be a MT Wool Growers Lamb BBQ this morning at 11, in Ethridge, & a Beef Banquet later this afternoon out at the Seewald Building at the Shelby fairgrounds. All this good grub is just another highlight of Montana Range Days.
