Parkers Prairie man injured in Todd County crash

A 66-year-old Parkers Prairie man was injured in a one-vehicle crash near Bertha on Sunday, May 30. Donald Eugene Cihlar was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado south on Todd County Road 23 near Highway 71 in Bertha Township when the vehicle crossed the center line and entered the northbound ditch, according to the State Patrol.

BERTHA -- A man was seriously hurt in a crash in Todd County. The Minnesota State Patrol says it happened at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Bertha Township. Troopers say 66-year-old Donald Cihlar of Parkers Prairie was driving his pickup southbound on County Road 23 at Highway 71 when the vehicle crossed the center line and entered the northbound ditch.

Local counties lagging in COVID-19 vaccinations

While 64 percent of adult Minnesotans have been vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus, the four counties in the Staples-Motley area are still well below that figure. Todd County has the lowest percentage, with 40 percent of the population over age 16 receiving at least one vaccination shot. Minnesota’s Mayo Clinic has stated that a much higher percentage of vaccinations will be needed to provide herd immunity in the overall population.

Mobile vaccine bus to make stops in Todd County

A mobile COVID-19 vaccine bus will spend four days in Todd County as part of an effort to increase access and vaccination rates. The bus will offer the single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine May 17-20 free of charge to anyone age 18 and older. People do not need to make an appointment and anyone is able to walk up to the bus and get vaccinated. No insurance or identification is needed. The bus has all the same equipment and cleanliness as a regular vaccination site, public health officials noted. Staff and volunteers will be at the event and can answer any questions before and during the bus visit.

Morrison County to assist on new Lake Shamineau project

The project to alleviate rising water levels on Lake Shamineau received new life, Tuesday. In a 5-0 vote, the Morrison County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution stating it will provide $200,000 toward the Lake Shamineau Lake Improvement District’s (LID) High-Water Outlet project. The $200,000 — which will go directly to the Todd County Ditch 41 Maintenance Fund, if the project is approved — is the same amount Morrison County planned to spend on a separate pumping project approved in 2020, which never came to fruition.
