Exiting mayor, council members get an emotional send-off

Strong, determined, servant, energy, passion and friend. These are just a few words that were used by city council members and staff to describe three city leaders on their last day in office. The Aug. 2 city council meeting was the last for Mayor Chet Mann, and council members Chas Post and Samuel Gaskins.

The Lady Cavaliers finished third in the Sandhills Athletic Conference last year, losing only to the conference’s top 3A and 4A teams, Union Pines and Pinecrest, and expect to have another solid season in ‘22.

A Cavalier Attitude

After an opening day filled with paperwork issues for several players, Southern Lee soccer was out in force on the practice field Tuesday evening. The Cavaliers, who have been one of the area’s top teams for a number of years, extended their streak of seasons earning championship hardware last fall when they stunned higher-seeded Pinecrest and Lee in the SAC tournament, then won a state playoff game as well.
