Colby Joel Bost Eagle Scout Court Of Honor Ceremony

MINT HILL, NC – Colby Joel Bost from Troop 65 locally in Mint Hill was officially awarded his Eagle Scout achievement award on Saturday, July 24, 2021. This is the highest award a Scout can receive, it truly is an accomplishment considering the road a Scout must pursue to attain the Eagle Scout badge. It takes years of dedication, hard work, commitment, drive, and leadership. Also, it requires the assistance of others including mentors, family, friends, and possibly most of all a desire to join an elite group of young men. A major accomplishment in itself.

In Charge of Our Body

CHARLOTTE – Some professionals think your head is the beginning, middle, and end to controlling what goes on in your body. Or that the head and the sacram (that squarish flat bone at the bottom of your back) are in charge of everything. But what we are finding is that there are several ways to get the results you need when it comes to feeling better.

Bonding Over Books

CHARLOTTE – Her request took me by surprise. My eight year old daughter called me into her bedroom. “Mommy”, she said, “will you read to me?” Glancing at my watch, I wondered if this was a smart move. I had projects to finish, emails to compose and calendars to synchronize. One look at my daughter’s face told me that saying no wasn’t an option. Her eyes sparkled with excitement as she scooted over to make room for me on her bed. As I reached for the book, I took note that it was an old chapter book that had once belonged to her eleven year old sister. I knew that this was a book that she could easily read on her own. I understood right away what this meant. My younger daughter was creating an opportunity for us to connect by reading together. It was a struggle tearing myself away from work, but I am so happy I did. I read the first chapter of the book to her. We laughed, made connections to the story, made predictions about what we thought would happen next, and simply enjoyed the time together. Give your child the liberty to choose the book you will read together. It will affirm and validate her and let her know that you are interested in what interests her. Carve out twenty or thirty minutes to bond over books with your child. You won’t regret it. Follow us on Facebook @KumonOfCharlotteMintHill and Instagram @kumonatminthill. All The Cowboys Ain’t Gone

MINT HILL, NC – When I turned off the highway and my tires rolled over gravel and the car’s suspension dropped a little when I hit a rainwater-filled mudhole, I felt home. The way the road wended and the way the trees grew lusher and leaned into one another. The way the bustle of the city gave way to the proliferation of vegetation. The way something inside of you comes alive. A place that’s unmarred by worldly expectations yet aromatic with wisdom and knowledge of how to ride a horse.

CHARLOTTE – From local Mint Hill author Jamie Jackson comes Fear and Fury, the first novel in her new adult urban fantasy series. Described by the author as a “new adult urban fantasy/romance,” Fear and Fury is the origin story of reluctant superhero Megaera (Meg for short). Meg just wants to work her dead-end job and have everyone – especially the heroes of the world – leave her in peace, but when a villain with the ability to turn heroes’ superpowers back on their owners sets his sights on Meg, she’s forced to team up with the very heroes she despises. Adoptable Pet Of the Week – John Henry

UNION COUNTY, NC – The Humane Society of Union County is pleased to present John Henry!. “John Henry is a four-year-old lab mix fellow weighing in at 68 lbs who is looking for his forever home! Although he was a little shy when he first came to us, John Henry has gotten more and more confident each day and has done a fantastic job of coming out of his shell. Once you gain his trust, he loves nothing more than cuddling up with you in your lap for some scratches! He is a well-mannered boy who knows basic commands such as “Sit” and “Shake.” His favorite pastime is playing fetch, and he will spend all day chasing after his favorite tennis ball! We are unsure of how he does with cats, but John Henry has done well with the dogs that we have introduced him to and would do best with a slow introduction to a new doggie brother or sister. He would also love a doggie sibling that loves to play and can match his energy level!”

Getting Your Health Back On Track

CHARLOTTE – Practicing good public health and staying safe has been so important over the last year, but the truth is we have been putting so much emphasis on staying free from viruses that many have let general health fall to the wayside. Studies are showing that blood pressure control and blood sugar maintenance health are worsening. Health care providers are asking patients to make sure that they are seeking, discussing, and managing proper blood pressure and blood sugar management.
