ADDISON, Ala. – Addison hosted the Falkville Blue Devils for two games Friday night and both Bulldog squads came away with wins. The Addison ladies took two overtimes before they put away the Lady Devils 64-59 and the Addison men broke open a close game in the second half and won going away 80-58. PREP BASKETBALL: Vinemont splits varsity battles with J.B. Pennington

VINEMONT, Ala. – The Vinemont Eagles hosted the J.B. Pennington Tigers in Friday night hoops action. Vinemont’s varsity girls cruised past J.B. Pennington 54-17 but in the boys’ game, a late comeback effort by the Eagles came up just short and the Tigers were able to edge Vinemont 57-54. Vinemont 54 – J.B. Pennington 17 (Varsity Girls) Neither team scored for the first two-plus minutes of the game before Morgan Flanagan drilled a three from the right corner to put Vinemont on the scoreboard first. Paula Kay Harris, age 61 of Phil Campbell, Alabama, passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, at her residence. Paula was born on March 27, 1961, in Cullman, Alabama. No services will be held at this time. Paula is survived by her mother, Carolyn Faye Hodge; daughter, Lamanda (Joseph) Winstead; son, Kaleb Harris; sister, Lamanda Harris; granddaughters, Hailey Winstead (Preston), and Serinity Winstead; grandson, Keith Harris; stepchildren, Heath Pierce, Justin Pierce, and Stacey Pierce; special cousin, Sharon Harris; nieces, Allison, Faith Ann, Crystal, and Abby; nephews, Cory, Kolby, and Jason; and a host of great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, A.C. Cockern and Mosel Fredrick Cockern, and Elick Harris and Willie May Maze Harris; brother, Michael Harris; father, Euclid “Romeo” Harris; special uncle, Dwight Cochran; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Holly Pond hosting Christmas celebration this Saturday

HOLLY POND, Ala. – The Town of Holly Pond, Holly Pond Civitan Club and Holly Pond Middle School Junior Civitan Club will host the Holly Pond Christmas Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 5-8 p.m. Governors Park behind Holly Pond Town Hall will see various Christmas displays from the community’s schools, churches, business owners and more.  Holly Pond Mayor Carla Hart will light the town’s Christmas tree before the Junior Civitans, along with Advisor Francine Morton, light luminaries in the park in memory of or honoring special loved ones. The Holly Pond High School band, led by Director Steven Porter, will play Christmas selections and Holly Pond Choral Director Melissa Roberts will direct the elementary chorus in traditional Christmas songs.  Santa Claus will be in attendance for the little ones and food trucks will have food, snacks and beverages available. 

WSCC hosting ‘Christmas Spectacular’ Dec. 8

Cullman man arrested on burglary charges in Florence

FLORENCE, Ala. – Braden Boner, 19, of Cullman, was arrested Tuesday by the Florence Police Department during an attempted burglary at a Walgreens Pharmacy located on North Wood Avenue in Florence.   Boner was allegedly found intoxicated by officers on the scene. Upon searching his belongings, officers allegedly found burglary tools in his possession and damage to the property consistent with Boner’s tools.  Boner was charged with minor in possession of alcohol, public intoxication, third-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools. He has been released on a $17,700 bond. 

CATA 1 of 8 schools nationwide to receive 2022 NCCER Core Toolbox Grant

CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Area Technology Academy (CATA) is one of eight schools nationwide to be awarded the 2022 NCCER Core Toolbox Grant, an approximately $8,000 grant from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) funded in conjunction with Bechtel Group Foundation and Stanley Black & Decker. The eight winners of the grant were chosen from more than 150 grant applicants.   CATA Carpentry/Building Construction Instructor Mike Burkett was notified of the grant in the spring and received the “toolbox” in October. WEST POINT, Ala. — The Fairview Aggies traveled to West Point to take on the Warriors in a pair of varsity games. The Lady Aggies held a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter and had to hold off a furious comeback from the Lady Warriors to win their game 65-60. Bradley Jay Nease, of Baileyton, Alabama, passed away on Nov. 29, 2022, at the age of 57. Mr. Nease was born in Phoenix, Arizona, on Aug. 5, 1965, to Vernon Leroy Nease and Viola Mouse. James “Jimmy” Pace, age 65 of Hayden, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, at his home. He was born on June 1, 1957, in Athens, Georgia to George Barney Pace and Mildred Inez Bentley Pace. Jimmy served in the United States Army and enjoyed being outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mildred Pace. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 23 years, Jennifer “Jenny” Myrick Pace; son, James “Little Jimmy” Shelnutt; siblings, Jerry Pace, John Pace and Kathy Turgeon; many nieces, nephews, in laws and friends. Graveside service for James Burl Chappell, 85, of Cullman will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022, at Valley Springs Baptist Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Cullman Funeral Home from 10-11 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Chappell passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022, at CRMC.  He was born Aug. 26, 1937, to Felix and Edna Russell Chappell.  He was a loving husband and father.  He worked for 43 years at Cullman Products.  He was a Baptist deacon for 53 years and was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church.  He was a veteran and served his country in the United States Navy. Mr. Chappell was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ima Gean Chappell; son, Tony (Bridgette) Chappell; brother, Delma (Wenona) Chappell; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rachel & Ray Bridgmon; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Mr. Marsh was born Nov. 2, 1958, to Thomas Willie, Sr. and Edith Wynell Butler Marsh.  He passed away on Nov. 30, 2022, at Cullman Regional Medical Center.  He was a member of First Baptist Fairview.  He was a great husband, dad, who cared about his family and loved everyone. Mr. Marsh was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Willie, Sr. and Edith Wynell Butler Marsh. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Judy Marsh; sons, Joshua (Denise) Marsh, Robert Marsh; brother, Thomas (Joan) Marsh, Jr.; sister, Mary Wynell (Robin) Howard; grandchildren, Lizzy Seidel, Joshua Marsh, Jr., Hayden Seidel, Brandin Marsh, Carson Marsh; great grandchild, Izy Bea Heard-Marsh;  and a host of family and friends. The pallbearers will be Michael Howard, Mitchell Howard, Matthew Howard, Josh Marsh, Jr., Brandin Marsh, Neal Pierce; Carson Marsh will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
