Bailey to take on Pritzker in November’s race for Illinois governor

(The Center Square) – A downstate Republican farmer who sued Gov. J.B. Pritzker over COVID-19 mandates will take on the billionaire Democratic incumbent this November. After state Sen. Darren Bailey, R-Xenia, had a commanding lead in the six-way race for the Republican nomination Tuesday, other leading candidates like Jesse Sullivan and Richard Irvin conceded. Irvin said they fought a tough fight.

Group says new retail delivery fee will pose 'a significant burden' on Colorado business operations

(The Center Square) – Some small business owners are sounding off against a new fee that's set to take effect on retail items that customers purchase and have delivered. The new retail delivery fee was created under Senate Bill 21-260, which established a host of new fees to fund the state's transportation system. The new fee is effective starting Friday "on all deliveries by motor vehicle to a location in Colorado with at least one item of tangible personal property subject to state sales or use tax."

Ige to veto 30 bills

(The Center Square) - Bills meant to curb government emergency powers and facilitate criminal pretrial reform are among those Hawaii Gov. David Ige says he plans to veto. In a letter to legislative leaders, Ige listed 30 of the 343 bills passed this legislative session that he intends to block.

Private philanthropy funds half of UM system's largest new capital project
