Salina Summer Winding Down

It’s a sure sign summer is winding down. Salina’s Kenwood Cove water park will soon be closing for the season. After closing Sunday evening, the water park will be closed all week, Monday through Friday. Kenwood Cove will be unable to open due to staffing issues. The will be unable to be open Monday through Friday due to so many of their staff moving to college and preparing for school to start.

Salina teen arrested for alleged attempts to solicit others to harm stepfather

A Salina teen was arrested Saturday after he allegedly attempted to solicit acquaintances to do harm to his stepfather. Salina Police Patrol Captain David Villanueva said this morning that a 43-year-old Salina man was notified by other people that Joseph T. Moran, 18, Salina, was attempting to solicit acquaintances to do bodily harm to the 43-year-old with an edged weapon. The solicitation attempts were made via social media.

COVID Cases, Hospitalizations Up, Deaths Steady

The number of local COVID cases and hospitalizations in Saline County are up, and the number of deaths is steady. According to the Saline County Health Department, there were 584 reported cases of COVID-19 throughout the month of July, up significantly from the 298 cases reported in June. While hospitalizations remained low for most of the month, Salina Regional Health Center reports that there are currently 14 people in varying condition levels being treated for COVID-19, up from four reported in-patients at the same time last month. June and July both saw three deaths due to COVID-19.

2022 Scholarship Winners Announced at AGJA Crossroads Classic

The future of the Gelbvieh breed looks brighter each and every year. This year, eight scholarships were awarded totaling $5,500 at the 2022 AGJA Crossroads Classic Awards Banquet held in Salina, Kansas July 8, 2022. Gabrielle Hammer, daughter of Lyle and Christy Hammer of Wallace, Kansas, was awarded the $1000 Earl Buss Memorial Scholarship as well as the $500 Mary Zillinger Cates Scholarship. Gabrielle currently attends Fort Hays State University majoring in Biology with the hopes of furthering her education applying for a doctorate in Physical. A 3.95 GPA student, Hammer has excelled over the years in the areas of leadership and citizenship through 4-H and the AGJA. Hammer has received a top 10 exhibitor title eight times in the AGJA.

Crimestoppers seeks tips about catalytic converter theft at Lowe's

On July 26, Salina Police Officers responded to a report of a catalytic converter theft at Lowe’s, 3035 S. Ninth Street. An employee reported the catalytic converter to a Ford SUV she drove to work was cut off and stolen while she was working. The vehicle was parked in the west end of the store’s parking lot. The value of the theft and damages is estimated to be in excess of $2,000.

Kan. felon transporting drugs caught after 130mph chase

SALINE COUNTY —A pursuit that began in Salina early Wednesday ended with stop spikes in Ellsworth County. Just after 2a.m., an Audi 7 driven by Kaleb Beaugh, 29, of rural Saline County, was northbound on N. College Avenue when he failed to signal a turn west onto W.
