Tow-truck driver shot in the head in Bronx, cops say

A Bronx tow-truck driver is fighting for his life after being shot in the head Sunday morning, cops said. The 35-year-old victim was at Bruckner Boulevard and 141st Street when he was struck by a bullet around 1 a.m., cops said. The motive for the shooting is unclear. Photographs of the crime scene show police officers shining flashlights into the cab of the red tow truck, which had a minivan on its tow hook. It wasn’t immediately clear how many shots were fired, but multiple yellow evidence markers were placed on the street. The man was taken to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition, cops said.

NYC woman killed by hit-and-run driver after falling out of boyfriend’s car

A woman who was trying to get into her boyfriend’s car in Brooklyn on Sunday fell to the ground when he began driving away – and was fatally struck by a second vehicle, cops said. The 46-year-old woman was climbing into the rear passenger seat of the Jeep Cherokee at St. John’s Place and Rochester Avenue in Crown Heights when her beau pulled out, causing her to fall to the street, cops said.  The 48-year-old boyfriend didn’t realize his girlfriend was trying to get into the car, cops said. She was then struck by an SUV that was traveling on St. Johns Place, cops said. ‘What’s up with the watch?’: NYC robbery duo swipes man’s $35K timepiece

Video footage captures robbers stealing a man’s $35,000 watch in Chelsea while the victim futilely tries to run away, cops say.  The creeps approached the 55-year-old victim around 10 p.m. Aug. 29 at 235 Ninth Ave., with one of the suspects lifting his shirt and acting as if he had a gun in his waistband, police said.  “What’s up with the watch?” the robber asked of the victim’s Cartier timepiece, according to police. It was unclear if the suspect actually had a gun, police said. The victim ran to the intersection of West 24th Street and Ninth Avenue to try to flee, but the robbers chased him, and a second suspect yanked the watch off the victim’s left wrist. The suspects then fled in a black sedan that was last seen traveling southbound on Ninth Avenue. Construction worker dies at Robbinsville, NJ temple raided by FBI, cops say

ROBBINSVILLE — A construction worker has died at a Hindu temple that was raided by the FBI last year and accused in a lawsuit of human trafficking and labor violations. The 57-year-old man from Hillside was dead when first responders arrived at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir shortly before 4 p.m. on Friday, according to Robbinsville police. An investigation found that a construction accident had occurred at the rear of the property where curbing was being installed.

At least four people were hurt and half a dozen cars damaged in a particularly destructive late-night crash in Manhattan on Saturday, according to authorities.
