COVID transmission risk 'high' in Peoria, Tazewell and Fulton counties, according to CDC

PEORIA – Masks are now being recommended in six central Illinois counties at high risk of COVID-19 transmission. On Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that a total of 15 Illinois counties were rated at high community level for COVID-19. The central Illinois counties were listed as Peoria, Tazewell, Fulton, Henderson, Knox and Mason. Also listed at high community level were Cook, DuPage, Lake, McHenry, Will, Grundy, Boone, Lee and Winnebago counties in northern Illinois.

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A federal indictment unsealed Tuesday revealed that five individuals were arrested for a drug trafficking conspiracy. According to a United States Attorney’s Office Central District of Illinois press release, the five defendants are charged with one count of conspiracy alleging that they acted together to distribute and possess with intent to distribute at least 50 grams of a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine.

Woman pleads not guilty to East Peoria pedestrian deaths

PEKIN, Ill. – A woman accused of striking and killing two pedestrians more than a month ago in East Peria has pleaded not guilty. Tazewell County Circuit Court records indicate Stephanie Melgoza, 23, made the plea during an arraignment hearing Tuesday on eight different charges, including felony counts of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence, and Aggravated Reckless Driving.

Hundreds in Central Illinois have already voted early

PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - More than 200 people across Peoria, McLean and Tazewell Counties have voted in the June primaries, less than a week after early voting opened. Tazewell County Clerk John Ackerman says around 60 have already come in-person to vote early at two sites since last Thursday. Pekin Civic Chorus’ Showtime 2022 postponed amid COVID-19 concerns

According to a press release, the Board of Directors of Pekins Civic Chorus made the unanimous decision to postpone its shows due to local COVID-19 outbreaks, including Tazewell and Peoria County, which have been designated high-level COVID-19 areas.
