First Responders Extinguish Vehicle Fire Off Of Point Lookout Road

LEONARDTOWN, Md. -- On the Morning of August 3, first responders were called to the scene of a vehicle fire off of Point Lookout Road. At approximately 8:47 a.m. yesterday, crews from the Second District (Valley Lee) Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 21000 block of Point Lookout Road for the reported fire. Upon arrival, the firefighters discovered a Chrysler vehicle fully engulfed in flames, but they would work quick to have it out in roughly 15 minutes.

Drug Arrest- On July 17, 2021, Cpl. Pontorno conducted a traffic stop in the 22400 block of Three Notch Road in Lexington Park, and identified Kyle Matthew Kerig, age 19 of Leonardtown as the operator. Located in a plastic bag in Kerig's vehicle were suspected amphetamine pills. Kerig was arrested and charged with CDS: Possession-Not Marijuana. CASE# 36828-21.

CLEMENTS, Md. -- On 8/2/2021, Tfc A. Opirhory and Tpr T. Eckrich conducted a traffic stop in the area of Colton Point Road, Clements, MD. The driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle gave several false names and was later identified as James Garrick Young, 62 of Bushwood, MD. Young was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center and charged with False Statement to Officer and Resist/Interfere with Arrest. He also had an active arrest warrant through the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.

Central Virginia seeing increase in COVID outbreaks tied to child care facilities, summer camps; 40% of cases in people eligible for vaccine but not vaccinated

COVID-19 outbreaks in Richmond-area child care facilities and summer camps are growing. Since July 1, the Virginia Department of Health has tied 20 total outbreaks to summer camps and preschool facilities in its Central Virginia region, which covers an area including Richmond and the counties of Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico. In the same time frame last year, there had been one outbreak reported in each setting.
