Gov. Ron DeSantis said Florida has secured a small shipment of monoclonal antibodies as he says the federal allotment to the state will continue to be reduced next week. Speaking at a news conference in Tampa Thursday, DeSantis said the state will be receiving about 3,000 does of the new monoclonal antibody treatment from GlaxoSmithKline.

September 23, 2021 - Leaders of AdventHealth, an Altamonte Springs-based hospital system with campuses throughout Tampa Bay, have cut the ceremonial ribbon on Thursday to celebrate the new $300 million Taneja Center for Surgery at AdventHealth Tampa, the largest surgical expansion in Tampa Bay history. The 314,000-square-foot surgical tower houses larger robotics needed for intricate surgical cases that require multiple surgeons. The new tower has 18, 750-square-foot operating rooms, 96 private patient rooms, and a negative pressure room outside of the operating room that's used for protection against infectious diseases. A new intensive care unit is the first step in Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital's $550 million expansion plan, the academic medical center announced Sept. 22. The new $17.5 million intensive care unit, which includes 34 rooms, is one of several projects that are part of Tampa General's multiyear master facility plan. The 1,041-bed hospital will also add four floors above its emergency department; expand and renovate its burn center; add clinic, education and training space; construct a 15,000-square-foot freestanding emergency department and renovate its main operating suite.
