The Talbot Integrity Project has announced that it likes my opposition to uncontrolled growth in Talbot County. It has done so in letters to the Spy and the Star Democrat, and most recently by a postcard mailing to voters. That limited “endorsement” has disturbed both conservatives and liberals, and I think it is worth stating why I accepted TIP’s support.

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A man was killed Sunday evening in a shooting in Talbot County, authorities said Monday. The deadly shooting was reported shortly before 6:30 p.m. at a home on Prospect Avenue in Easton, the Easton Police Department said. Officers called to the scene found the victim shot once, police said. He was given first aid and taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries. Based on a preliminary investigation, police believe the victim was involved in a dispute with the suspect that escalated when the suspect opened fire. The suspect had fled by the time police arrived. Police believe the suspect knew the victim, but no details about his identity were immediately released. The age and name of the victim were not immediately available Monday morning. The deadly shooting remains under investigation.

Trappe Town Commissioner Brian Schmidt wrote a lengthy Guest Commentary published last Friday in the Star Democrat; purportedly, it was to “clear the air” on Lakeside. It did not. Instead, the same false narrative Talbot citizens have heard for two-and-a-half years is repeated yet again. Repetition of a false story over and over can bear fruit. And maybe we get tired, or worn down. But not yet.

It is not clear to me what a resident of Talbot County should expect. But it is clear to me what we should not anticipate. Talbot County, to quote its website has “the most shoreline of any county in the United States.” Six hundred miles, it is said. The shoreline, our boundary with water-borne grandeur, is the reason most of us are here dating all the way back to the beginning.

EASTON — After virtual instruction was successfully embedded and used during the 2021-22 school year, Talbot County Public Schools is looking to add and repurpose more virtual days for the upcoming year.
