SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — Fighting fire with fire sometimes goes bad. But on Thursday, Mother Nature fully cooperated and officials feel like they may have taken a big step on further controlling the Caldor with a successful firing operation that “couldn’t have gone any better” near Caples Lake and California State Route 88, and within eyesight of the backside of Sierra-at-Tahoe.

Caldor Fire Containment Sits At 76%; More Evacuations Downgraded

EL DORADO COUNTY (CBS13/AP) — The latest information on the Caldor Fire: Mandatory evacuations were downgraded to warnings for the Heavenly area on Friday. The order effects the following area: Heavenly – East of Pioneer Trail between Larch and Al Tahoe, to include the area of Heavenly Ski Resort out to the Alpine County Line and the Nevada State line on the east. Last-minute Candy Dance preparations pack Genoa

Genoa was bustling on Friday morning as crafters arrived to set up across the historic town for the annual Candy Dance craft fair today and Sunday. Friday’s activity is nothing compared with the throng of around 30,000 people who will pack the town over the weekend, shopping at craft booths, buying candy and finding all sorts of sustenance.

Candy Dance returns to Genoa for 102nd year

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Candy Dance is returning to Genoa for the 102nd year. It comes following last year’s cancellation because of the Coronavirus Pandemic. The event is big for the Genoa. The town is one of two in the entire country that gets more than 50% of it’s budget from an event. It started back in 1919, when Lillian Finnegan came up with the idea to hold a dance and midnight dinner to raise funds for streetlights.

Vikings girl’s tennis rallies past Wooster

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — The South Tahoe girls’ tennis team got its season underway on Tuesday and earned a 12-6 victory over the Wooster Colts. “It was so special being the first match with everything we have been through in the last month,” said vikings head coach Tracey Samoluk. “With the Tamarack and Dixie fires and then the Caldor Fire, we missed some practices and then were evacuated on Aug. 29. You just have to keep on believing and put everything into it and never give up. I am so incredibly proud of these young ladies. They know what perseverance is.”

Truckee outdoor dining gets extension

Outdoor dining in Truckee has been given the approval to continue through the end of October.
