Wisconsin National Guard commander makes history in her rank

FORT MCCOY, Wis.— A member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard is making history as the first woman in her position. Waupaca native Alicia Dorsett has been in the National Guard for over eight years. Every so often her and her unit spend the weekend at drill training. Her most recent training was firing training rockets at Fort McCoy. It also marked the first time she commanded her unit.

The number of active cases of COVID-19 in Sheboygan County has been increasing each day so far this week. Beginning with 412 on Monday, 470 active cases were noted in Thursday’s semi-weekly update from the County Division of Public Health. That’s the most since 514 were recorded on January 29th. 40 new cases were confirmed through positive test results since Wednesday balanced against 18 recoveries for the 22 case gain in active cases, and 15,210 cases in all have been recorded during the pandemic in Sheboygan County. In the last day, 17% of tests were positive. That compares with a 7-day average of 11.98%, and there’s a 7-day case average of 180.34 cases per 100,000 persons. Sheboygan County is currently experiencing a “high” level of transmission. Given that fact, the Sheboygan County DPH and the federal Centers for Disease Control recommend that all individuals, regardless of vaccinations status, wear masks while indoors or when physical distancing cannot be maintained.

COVID-19 Tests Resume At Festival Hall

RACINE – In response to recent upticks in positive COVID-19 cases, regular free testing for the virus resumes Thursday from 12-6 p.m. at Festival Hall, 5 Fifth St. The tests, conducted by members of the Wisconsin National Guard, will be offered on Mondays and Thursdays each week through Dec. 13. The testing is open to anyone 12 months or older (a parent/guardian must accompany minors. Individuals DO NOT have to have possible COVID-19 symptoms to get tests.
