Girls soccer: Simonett named honorable mention all-state

Verona junior Lauren Simonett earned honorable mention Wisconsin Soccer Coaches All-State honors at defender after leading the Wildcats to a WIAA Division 1 sectional run. Simonett helped lead Verona to a 9-4-1 record and a tie with Madison West for second place in the Big Eight Conference. She scored seven goals and had two assists. The Wildcats lost to the Regents 1-0 in a Division 1 sectional semifinal.

Rabas Named Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach at St. Norbert

Jessie Rabas has been named an assistant coach at St. Norbert College, women’s basketball coach Amanda Leonhard-Perry announced. Rabas arrives at St. Norbert after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at her prep alma mater, De Pere High School. The Redbirds qualified for a WIAA Division 1 sectional appearance in 2021.

WRESTLING: Baraboo's Gunderson commits to Northern Iowa

John Gunderson capped a summer of highs this week. The 2021 Baraboo High School graduate committed to join the wrestling program at the University of Northern Iowa. “Northern Iowa is a top D-I program that consistently produces national qualifiers and All-Americans,” Baraboo head coach Joe Bavlnka said. “It’s head coach, Doug Schwab, was an NCAA champ for Iowa and an Olympian. Through John’s dedication and hard work, he earned this opportunity to be a part of such an elite program. I am excited to see this next stage in John’s wrestling career. He continues to set high goals for himself and this environment will only help him achieve them.”
