WHL: Kamloops Blazers Off to Hot Start

The Western Hockey League (WHL) kicked off their regular season on Oct. 1, and the Kamloops Blazers opened up their season on Oct. 2, beating the Prince George Cougars by a score of 5-4. The Blazers are coming off back-to-back B.C. Division titles and are not going to let anything get in the way once again. They currently sit first in the Western Conference with a record of 5-1-0-0 and are second in the league behind Matthew Savoie and his Winnipeg Ice. While it is still early in the season, I am going to touch upon a few Blazers notes and why I believe this will be a special season.

Morgan Barron scored the lone goal (with a Zac Jones assist) in Hartford’s 2-1 loss last night. The goal was Barron’s second in as many games to start the AHL season. In the OHL, Evan Vierling scored both goals for Barrie in a 2-0 win. In the WHL, Dylan Garand recorded his first shutout of the season, making 23 saves.

Blazers weekend wrap up

The Kamloops Blazers lost their first game of the season earlier this weekend. However, they also got their first shutout of the season in the second game of their weekend. The team now leads the BC Division by six points over the Kelowna Rockets and Vancouver Giants, teams they played over the weekend.
