The New York Rangers are set to hire Gerard Gallant as their new head coach, according to multiple reports Monday. In his most recent NHL coaching stint, the 57-year-old Gallant led the expansion-team Vegas Golden Knights on an unprecedented run to the 2018 Stanley Cup finals, which they lost to the Washington Capitals. Gallant was fired midseason in January 2020, and he is coming off a world championships win earlier this month with Canada in which he coached his native country to the title after his squad lost its first three games.
