Utah football routs USC, snapping 106-year winless streak in Los Angeles

Los Angeles • The University of Utah football team took the emotion, the sadness, and the frustration of the last two weeks, and took all of it out on USC. Playing in their first game since the shooting death of sophomore cornerback Aaron Lowe on Sept. 26, the Utes scored five touchdowns on their first seven drives, while the defense cranked up the intensity for long stretches after a spotty start for a decisive 42-26 win at the LA Coliseum.

Man arrested in Utah football player’s shooting death

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police arrested a man early Sunday in connection with the shooting death of Utah sophomore cornerback Aaron Lowe. Homicide detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department located Buk M. Buk, 22, in Draper and booked him on charges of aggravated murder, attempted murder and felony discharge of a firearm. Online jail records do not indicate if he has an attorney who can speak on his behalf.

Utah football player Aaron Lowe was fatally shot early Sunday in Salt Lake City, less than a year after teammate and friend Ty Jordan was killed in an accidental shooting. "We are devastated to hear about the passing of Aaron Lowe," Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Aaron's family and friends, along with the other individual who was harmed in this tragic incident. Aaron was a great teammate, friend, brother and son and was loved by anyone who crossed paths with him. He will be deeply missed."

Man arrested in connection with the shooting death of Utah football player Aaron Lowe

A 22-year-old man was arrested Sunday morning in connection with the shooting death of Utah football player Aaron Lowe. Buk Mawut Buk was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of aggravated murder, attempted murder and felony discharge of a firearm, according to a news release from the Salt Lake City Police Department. He is being held without bail.

LOS ANGELES — In Utah’s first game since the passing of sophomore defensive back Aaron Lowe — Saturday night at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum against USC — the Utes wore a new decal on their helmets honoring both Lowe and Ty Jordan with their initials, “TJ” and “AL,” including the words “Forever U.”
