galen tipton uses her music to craft miniature universes of sound

Listen to anything by galen tipton and prepare to step inside a world unlike any other you’ve experienced before. The musician based in Columbus, Ohio, has learned how to meticulously craft alternate realities completely out of sound, immersing listeners into a feeling without having to use any words. As the creator of these mystifying mini universes, tipton writes her own rules—and isn’t afraid to break them when she needs to.

“Terra Incognita” –What Lies Beyond the Observable Universe?

It’s possible that the universe isn’t uniform past what we can see, and conditions are wildly different from place to place, says Caltech astrophysicist Sean Carroll. “That possibility is the cosmological multiverse. We don’t know if there is a multiverse in this sense, but since we can’t actually see one way or another, it’s wise to keep an open mind.”

The Star Trek Extended Design Universe

The Star Trek franchise has produced one of the most comprehensive universes ever seen in pop culture, with a dedicated fan base ready to swoop in on any inconsistencies. But there is one thing many Trekkies can agree upon: they would like to own and drink out of Captain Jean-Luc Picard’s tea cup (hot Earl Grey tea optional). And they can: His preferred drinking vessel, used not only throughout The Next Generation (1987-1994), but also by Captain Kathryn Janeway on Voyager (1995-2001) and of course the modern iteration of Picard (2020-present), is not a manufactured prop, but Carsten Jorgensen’s Bistro Cup designed for Bodum in 1974. Though out of production, the cup is available from second-hand sellers like Etsy, where it is often conveniently labeled the Picard cup.

Spotlight: Pittsburgh’s City Theatre Returns to Its Main Stage

City Theatre is ready for traditional applause. During the theater’s Drive-In Arts Festival in September 2020, it sponsored 12 nights of entertainment at Hazelwood Green. UW Space Place gives audience a ‘Tour of the Universe’ with guest speaker

Exhibiting the vast reaches of the universe, guest speaker Dean Regas from the Cincinnati Observatory gave a presentation at the University of Wisconsin Space Place Tuesday. “So the universe is vast,” Regas said. “It is humongous. It is hard to wrap your brain around. It’s hard to really get a feel for it, but I’m going to do my best to get you a feel for where you are in the universe and how big it is.”

The Vulnerable Universe Hypothesis

The Vulnerable World Hypothesis (VWH) was introduced by Nick Bostrom in 2019:. Scientific and technological progress might change people’s capabilities or incentives in ways that would destabilize civilization. For example, advances in DIY biohacking tools might make it easy for anybody with basic training in biology to kill millions; novel military technologies could trigger arms races in which whoever strikes first has a decisive advantage; or some economically advantageous process may be invented that produces disastrous negative global externalities that are hard to regulate. This paper introduces the concept of a vulnerable world: roughly, one in which there is some level of technological development at which civilization almost certainly gets devastated by default, i.e. unless it has exited the ‘semi-anarchic default condition’.

Forgotten Kids' Shows That Deserve Their Own Movie Universes

Old cartoons and kids' shows are a fertile ground to mine for modern blockbusters. There've been a whole bunch of "Transformers" movies at this point, plus a few takes on things like "G.I. Joe" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," with movies based on "He-Man," "Barbie," and "Thundercats" all reportedly in production. But what about the less well-remembered properties? Just because something didn't last that long, or hasn't retained as strong a following as "Masters of the Universe," doesn't mean it couldn't be translated into a successful movie franchise. Hollywood has never been afraid to look to the past for things to reinvent, and we shouldn't be either.

Channeled Message: You’re Not a Helicopter Parent

You cannot see or perhaps, sense what you have created. Likely, you wish you had not created this revolution, for the current effects of this transition are much more unpleasant than you anticipated. You believed the global transition from fear to love would happen softly and graciously. Even though we,...

You can now download most detailed simulation of the universe!

(MENAFN - NewsBytes) Astronomers can't compare multiple universes to ours because there is only one universe known to exist. So, to study the effects of how dark matter and dark energies affect the universe, astronomers resorted to computer simulations where they tweak parameters, study the effects, and learn. The most detailed such simulation can now be accessed free of charge and even crammed on a single drive.

Researchers Generated an Entire Virtual Universe, And You Can Even Download It

Astronomy is a bit different from many sciences because you only have a sample size of 1. The cosmos contains everything we can observe, so astronomers can't study multiple universes to see how our Universe ticks. But they can create computer simulations of our Universe. By tweaking different aspects of...

Researchers Make Simulation of Our Universe Containing 2.1 Trillion Particles Stored on 3,000 TB of Storage

Researchers have now worked together to make a virtual replica of the universe containing 2.1 trillion particles stored on a massive 3,000 TB storage. According to the story by ScienceAlert, astronomy is quite different from other sciences due to only having a sample size of 1. Since the cosmos contains everything observable, astronomers can't just study multiple universes in order to see how the Earth's Universe is doing.
