Georgia vs. Georgia Tech prediction: Heavy favorite won’t cover

On a busy Saturday full of marquee matchups and rivalry showdowns, you’d be forgiven for overlooking the relatively ho-hum clash between No. 1 Georgia and unranked Georgia Tech. Yet this line doesn’t make a whole lot of sense when you dig into each team’s profile. The Bulldogs may be the best team in the country and have blown the doors off their opponents all year long. But to this degree? Not so much. Georgia owns just three wins by 35-plus points all season, and two of them came within the first three weeks of the season. Check out more of the Best...

UNC women’s soccer punches ticket to College Cup with win

The UNC Women’s soccer team has proved doubters wrong all season long here in 2022. And on Saturday, they shut out Notre Dame on the road to punch their ticket to the College Cup. The No. 2 Tar Heels took down the No. 1 Fighting Irish 2-0 in South Bend, advancing to the program’s 31st College Cup. It was a huge win for the Tar Heels who were dominant throughout the game. Ally Sentnor netted the first goal in the 21st minute, driving a header into the back of the net. From there, UNC controlled the game and held off the Fighting Irish. Talia Dellaperuta would add the final goal, a 47th-minute strike for the Tar Heels. Notre Dame made a push in the second half but UNC’s defense and keeper Emmie Allen was able to fight off a flurry of shots. The Tar Heels will play defending national champion Florida State on Friday. No. 1 FSU soccer advances to the College Cup!

Florida State (17-2-3) defeated third seeded Arkansas (13-4-5) by a 1-0 score tonight at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Tallahassee, FL. Arkansas came out in a 3-5-2 formation. The goal was to dominate the midfield and not let Florida State crank up their well known possession tactics. This strategy was risky because playing with only three in the back means that there will be space for the excellent Seminole front line of Jody Brown, Beata Olsson and Onyi Echegini to exploit. However, the Hogs executed the plan perfectly. Florida State was not able to maintain possession in the first half. Therefore, most of the first half was played on the FSU side of the field.

UNC (22-8, 13-3 Big Sky) defeated Portland State (18-12, 11-5 Big Sky) in a tough but exciting championship game (23-25, 25-23, 25-27, 25-15, 15-6). The Vikings and Bears traded points for most of the first three sets, with small runs and details determining the outcomes. Portland State took a 2-1 lead in the match and looked like it could have the defending champs in a tough spot, but Northern Colorado responded dominantly.
