Rivalries: Santiago Ponzinibbio

Santiago Ponzinibbio seems to have drifted into a state of purgatory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s welterweight division. Now 35 years of age and seeking to avoid back-to-back losses for the first time in his 33-fight career, the “Argentine Dagger” will face the surging Michel Pereira in the UFC Fight Night 206 co-main event on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Ponzinibbio has lost two of his past three bouts. He last competed at UFC 269, where he wound up on the wrong side of a split decision against Geoff Neal on Dec. 11.

Makhachev Resurrects ‘Oliveira Is A Quitter’ Narrative

UFC lightweight contender Islam Makhachev has shared a sentiment popular among some of former champion Charles Oliveira’s previous opponents. Throughout Oliveira’s once-unlikely reign, one narrative existed, and it surrounded the idea that “Do Bronx” has some level of quit in him. Despite Oliveira overcoming adversity against Michael Chandler at UFC 262, Justin Gaethje was pretty resounding in his view of the Brazilian, suggesting that Chandler’s early barrage proved that Oliveira has a tendency to give up.

Peña: If You Didn’t Believe Me Pre-UFC 269, Believe Me Pre-Rematch

UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Julianna Peña believes now is the time for her previous doubters to hop over the fence and back her. Leading into the final pay-per-view of 2021, Peña was seen by most as little more than the latest prey for a “Lioness” who’d dominated everyone before her for years. With perhaps the most surprising upset in UFC history, that narrative came crumpling down courtesy of a second-round submission victory for “The Venezuelan Vixen.”

And after demolishing Raulian Paiva in December at UFC 269, “Sugar” is excited at the prospect of facing an opponent in Munhoz who he believes will challenge him in ways no others have before.

A Welterweight fight between Vicente Luque and Geoff Neal is slated to go down at an upcoming Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) “Fight Night”-themed event on Aug. 6, 2022, at a location that has yet to be determined. That’s according to ESPN’s Brett Okamato, who confirmed the booking.

Valentina Shevchenko on Julianna Pena and Amanda Nunes: ‘I can fight both of them at the same time’

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko fears no one. “The Bullet” has been just about as perfect as any fighter can hope to be inside the Octagon, but her run in UFC didn’t come without some losses during her time at Bantamweight. Having only lost thrice in 25 career bouts, Shevchenko (22-3) has since avenged one of those setbacks to the future Bellator champion, Liz Carmouche, while she has yet to avenge the other two that both came against Amanda Nunes.

A welterweight meeting between Vicente Luque and Geoff Neal is in the works for a UFC Fight Night card on Aug. 6, sources told ESPN's Brett Okamoto. Luque was riding a four-fight win streak before falling to Belal Muhammad by decision in April. The 30-year-old's run included a KO against Randy Brown, a TKO on Niko Price, and submission victories over Michael Chiesa and Tyron Woodley.

Tony Ferguson responds after Dustin Poirier claims he’s “better than these guys” following UFC 274

UFC lightweight Tony Ferguson has hit back at Dustin Poirier after he claimed he was ‘better’ than the 155ers on display at UFC 274. Last Saturday night at UFC 274, Tony Ferguson fell to a devastating knockout defeat at the hands of Michael Chandler. While he was able to have some success in the first round, it’s the kind of loss that had many wondering whether or not he should consider walking away from mixed martial arts – at least for the time being.

Charles Oliveira Envisions Next LW Title Fight Will Be In Dec. In Brazil

Former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira has a somewhat familiar plan in place for his return to the Octagon later this year. Oliveira defeated former interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje in the UFC 274 main event. He had to vacate his lightweight title after failing to make championship weight following some controversy regarding the scales in Phoenix.
