College sports earns poor grade for racial, gender hiring practices

Editor's note: Richard Lapchick is a human rights activist, pioneer for racial equality, expert on sports issues, scholar and author. Opportunities for people of color and women to be hired in college sports are still not where they need to be for real diversity, equity and inclusion on too many campuses. The current state of diversity at the NCAA headquarters needs to be improved if it is to be held up as a model for diversity, equity and inclusion at member institutions. There are many examples of this need in the 2021 DI FBS Leadership College Racial and Gender Report Card, published today by The Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport (TIDES) at the University of Central Florida.

Scituate Residents Prepare For Strong Winds, High Tides Ahead Of Nor’easter

SCITUATE (CBS) – It’s preparation time in Scituate ahead of Saturday’s storm with some homeowners taking no chances, boarding up windows, flood prone garages and sand bagging their properties. Resident Bette Kincaid says she’s “medium” nervous about this one. “It’s going both ways; the European models aren’t looking as bad so we’ll see,” she said. Timing is everything when it comes to the tides and winds and town officials say if there’s a silver lining it’s timing. “I think we’re lucky in that the winds miss the morning tide. But this looks like a classic nor’easter...

Extreme Tides

This weekend we’ll have extreme astronomical tides. The moon will be in perigee, closer to the Earth than at any other time this month, on Sunday. That alone is not a big deal. But the moon will also be in the New Moon phase on Tuesday. These two events combine together to give us higher and lower than normal tides.

These Sustainably Farmed Chips Are My New Favorite Snack

We independently select these products—if you buy from one of our links, we may earn a commission. Packaged roasted seaweed is a popular snack these days, and the world of sea vegetable snacks is ever-expanding. Which brings me to these chips: I picked up a bag at Erewhon, intrigued by the notion of a puffed kelp chip. Kelp didn’t strike me as an ingredient that would puff up when baked, so I was surprised by the look of these chips. I just had to take them home and try them.
