Clark County finds 2nd mosquito sample with West Nile Virus

CLARK COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) — A second mosquito sample collected in Clark County has tested positive for the West Nile Virus. The Clark County Combined Health District (CCCHD) collected the sample from the northeast side of Springfield. The previous sample was collected from the Catawba area. Both samples were submitted to the Ohio Department of Health’s Vector-Borne Disease program.

Texas Department of State Health Services reports first West Nile case in Dallas County

On Tuesday, the Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed the state's first West Nile case in a human in 2021. According to the news release, the case was discovered in a Dallas County resident. It was first reported by Dallas County Health and Human Services on July 16. In Bexar County, officials discovered a pool of mosquitoes tested positive for West Nile Virus on July 15. It was the first pool to test positive this year.

First West Nile Virus Positive Mosquitoes in Greenwich this Year

The State of Connecticut Mosquito Management Program announced that mosquitoes trapped in Mianus River Park have tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). These are the first positive mosquitoes identified by the Connecticut Agriculture Experiment Station (CAES) in Greenwich this year. In addition to Greenwich, WNV positive mosquito pools have been found in Darien, Milford, New Haven, South Windsor, Stamford and Waterford. The mosquitoes trapped (Culex pipiens, Culex restuans) are generally bird and mammal biting which breed in standing water often found in artificial containers like discarded tires, birdbaths and catch basins. During 2020, eight (8) Connecticut residents developed WNV-associated illness including two (2) Greenwich residents, the cases were not fatal. So far this year EEE has not been isolated in mosquitoes in Connecticut. The State Mosquito Management Program continues to trap and test mosquitoes at three testing sites in Greenwich as part of their program and will continue through October 2021.
