Sharks' Logan Couture: Good to go

Couture (lower body) participated in practice Thursday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports. The 32-year-old center is expected to be a top-line option yet again for the Sharks. Couture had 31 points in 53 appearances last season, his lowest scoring output since he recorded nine points in 25 contests as a rookie in 2009-10. With the Sharks still in a rebuild, it could suppress Couture's chances of a significant bounce-back campaign.

49ers' Elijah Mitchell: Returns to practice

Mitchell (shoulder) returned to practice Friday, while fellow 49ers running back Trey Sermon (concussion) shed his non-contact jersey, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports. It's good news for both, though Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports that Friday's practice is just a walkthrough, while 49ers GM John Lynch acknowledged Mitchell is "very questionable" for Sunday. Despite the injury woes, there's opportunity for a large workload, especially if one RB plays while the other is inactive. The 49ers' only healthy backfield options are Jacques Patrick and Trenton Cannon, both recent additions.
