Emily VanCamp Breaks Her Silence on ‘The Resident’ Exit — and Matt Czuchry Weighs In

Motherhood changes everything. Emily VanCamp confirmed that her daughter Iris’ birth was a huge part of the reason she left Fox’s The Resident after four seasons. “I spent so many years on network television, but then suddenly priorities shifted,” VanCamp, 35, explained to Deadline in an interview published after the Tuesday, October 5, episode aired. “I think there comes a moment in every woman’s life — in every person’s life — where it becomes less about work and more about family, and that’s what happened while I was making the show. Doing that many episodes in a different city and then you add COVID to that, most of us couldn’t see our families for almost a year. It really solidified for me that family is where my heart is at the moment.”

The Resident Season 5 Premiere Sets Up Emily VanCamp's Looming Exit

Here’s the good news for fans of The Resident‘s Nic Nevin: As of Tuesday’s Season 5 premiere, at least, Nic is alive and well and getting some much-needed rest at a spa retreat out of town. The bad news? Even though Nic is still part of the show during the season opener, the episode heavily suggests that her eventual exit will be unexpected and heartbreaking, making it tough to enjoy even the sweetest moments of Conrad’s stint as Mr. Mom during the hour. Last month, the news broke that original series star Emily VanCamp is leaving the medical drama after serving as...

Miles Fowler (Women of the Movement) is set as a new series regular on the upcoming fifth season of Fox’s hit medical drama series The Resident. He’s also a genius…for now, perhaps, just a misguided one. Fowler’s casting follows last month’s exit of Emily Vancamp after four seasons as a series regular and female lead. The storyline of her character, Nicolette ‘Nic’ Nevin, is expected to be wrapped up early...
