AFRICA/UGANDA - Bishop of Lira to priests: "Always stay focused and firm to overcome challenges"

2021-09-24 Lira (Agenzia Fides) - "The vocation to serve as a priest is a commitment that must be embraced with love and perseverance in the midst of challenges". This is what the Bishop of the diocese of Lira, Mgr. Sanctus Lino Wanok said on the occasion of the Eucharistic celebration for his 35th anniversary of priesthood. "Love, perseverance and humility are among the basic conditions for success in the priestly ministry. Anyone who is called to serve as a priest - we read in the note sent to Fides - should be accompanied in a solid and spiritual journey and sustained in his formation, with the aim of abtaining a positive result in the Church".

Confessing your sins to a Priest

I told a friend the other day that I needed to go for confession and wouldn’t be home early, and he said; “Why in the world would you confess to a mere man!” I tried to explain as much as I could but he wouldn’t even listen. He kept asking; where is it in the bible? I reminded him of the part where James instructed that we confess our sins to one another James 5: 16, and another passage where before His resurrection, Christ told His apostles that if they forgive people’s sins, they are forgiven, and if they do not forgive them, they are not forgiven John 20: 23. I tried to make him understand that these passages clearly make it obvious that confessing to a man is not wrong.

Three brothers ordained priests on the same day in the Philippines

This is an unprecedented event for the Church in the Philippines: Three brothers were ordained priests on the same day and in the same religious congregation. Jessie, Jestonie and Jerson Avenido were ordained on Wednesday, September 8, the day of the Nativity of the Virgin, for the Congregation of the Sacred Stigmata (known as Stigmatines), an Italian order. The celebration, presided over by Bishop José Cabantan, took place in the Cathedral of Cagayán de Oro, Philippines, and was reported on in an article in UCA News.

Priest apologises as racy music vid for song named ‘Atheist’ filmed in cathedral

The Archbishop of Toledo in Spain has apologised after two artists filmed a raunchy music video in the city's cathedral, claiming he had no clue of the project. Argentinian singer Nathy Peluso and Spanish artist C. Tangana filmed parts of the racy track at the 13th-century Toledo Cathedral, one of Spain's most famous buildings.
