Senators Burning Questions: Where Does Erik Brännström Fit?

Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion has had quite the offseason. He signed an extension that will see him through the 2024-25 season and made significant moves on the blue line. He went out and acquired veterans Michael Del Zotto and Nick Holden and because of these moves, the Erik Brännström crowd was up in arms, wondering where will he get his ice-time?

According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, the Ottawa Senators have offered Brady Tkachuk an eight-year, $64 million contract. Tkachuk, 21, is currently a restricted free agent as he has played out the three years in his entry-level contract. While his offensive totals to this point don't suggest he is worth a contract that lucrative, he brings plenty of intangibles and is undoubtedly the leader of the Senators' bright young core. In 56 games last season, he scored 17 goals while putting up a team leading 36 points, along with 69 penalty minutes.

Tkachuk: A huge contract will be on the table

If Ottawa Senators and Brady Tkachuk can’t quickly agree the details of an eight-year contract, negotiations could turn into a shorter agreement in order to prevent the young player from causing a stalemate at training camp. Anthony Cioffi On Being Back in the CFL after a Run with the Jets

The Springfield, New Jersey native had an incredible opportunity to play for the illustrious NFL team, the New York Jets a little while back, and not everyone who plays College ball or even for the CFL, gets that chance, but Anthony Cioffi was bestowed that incredible opportunity and he jumped at the chance the minute his run with the Ottawa Redblacks was over with.

Atlantic Notes: Cozens, Seider, Sogaard

With the never-ending rumors of Jack Eichel’s eventual trade on top of the departures of several other core Sabres this summer, its fair to wonder who will fill the leadership vacuum in Buffalo. However, young standout Dylan Cozens is more than ready to take on that role. Appearing on WGR 550 in Buffalo, the 2019 seventh overall pick stated that he is confident in his ability to lead this next generation of Sabres. “I think definitely I could go out and be a leader on this team,” Cozens said. “Just by the way I play, leading by example and being a voice in the room. I think it’s something I’m ready to do. I want to lead by example and be a guy that guys can look to if they need anything or look to to inspire them. That’s what I’ve always been growing up – the guy that wants to lead and do things the right way.” Part of what makes Cozens a great candidate to lead Buffalo for years to come is an optimism that has been missing from other core members through a dark stretch for the franchise. “I think that we’re going to surprise a lot of people this year,” Cozens believes. “Everyone’s doubting us because we’re a young team, but if you look at the second half of last season, we were beating those veteran teams. So I think we’re going to surprise a lot of people and we’re going to have a good year.”
