Takeaways from Duke baseball's opening media day

With the first pitch of the spring season still nearly four months away, Duke is beginning its preparation for its conference title defense. Last Tuesday marked the Blue Devils’ first team practice of the new year, and the first time the team assembled officially since Liberty booted it from the NCAA tournament in June. Coinciding with the practice, which comes ahead of 11 total scrimmages—including a three-game “Fall World Series” and two exhibition games against Davidson and N.C. State—was a chance to hear from 10th-year head coach Chris Pollard and veterans of the Blue Devils squad.

Buster Posey, Marlins legend? Two wild pitches, two homers that changed paths for two MLB franchises

Buster Posey is on the short list of best players ever to wear a San Francisco Giants uniform, in the superstar picture along with Willie Mays, Barry Bonds and Willie McCovey. It’s impossible to imagine this generation of Giants baseball — three World Series titles since 2010, plus the incredible 2021 script still being written — without Posey. He’s an inner-circle Bay Area legend and likely future Hall of Famer.

How awful did the Dbacks do each month of the season?

The Diamondbacks season was not pretty, but how did they do each month?. As you probably already know, the Diamondbacks only finished with the second-worst record in team history. At least it wasn’t the worst? Well, we won’t know the answer to that for a while due to we don’t know what will shake out from the MLB Draft next year. That’s because if the Dbacks had lost one more game, it would have given them the #1 overall pick. Instead, they are set to have the #2 pick overall. It’s far too soon to say what the ramifications of that are, and I trust Mike Hazen. Their record for the entire season of 2021 was 52-110. That was worst in the National League and tied with the Orioles for worst in all of MLB.

Pitcher Jesus Luzardo Finishes Off Roller Coaster Season With Historic Start

It seemed like 2021 would be the year that former Marjory Stoneman Douglas pitcher Jesus Luzardo would establish himself as one of the most dominant arms in the league. He graduated in 2016, after winning 23 games for the MSD baseball team, and was selected in the third round of the MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals. In 2019, he was later traded to the Oakland Athletics, making his MLB debut.

The 20th-year Arkansas baseball coach has turned to batting warmups, hoodies and jackets, shunning the tradition of baseball coaches being in full uniform like the players. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s last photo of Van Horn in a jersey top was from the 2017 regional final against Missouri State.

Where Are They Now: Sander Beck

If someone looked up towns or cities that have produced the most Major League Baseball players, Severna Park probably wouldn’t be at the top of the list. After all, only a handful of players who grew up in the Severna Park area have ever been drafted, let alone made “The Show.”
