Cardinals Playoff Odds: St. Louis likely to make postseason

The St. Louis Cardinals are now likely to make the postseason, something that seemed unimaginable on Aug. 10. If you would have told me on Aug. 10 that the St. Louis Cardinals, then 8.5 games out of the second National League wild card spot, would be in position to make the postseason, I would have laughed and told you there was little chance.

Jon Lester’s resurgence coincides with St. Louis Cardinals breakout

It’s no coincidence that Jon Lester’s resurgence has coincided with the St. Louis Cardinals’ breakout. The deal to acquire Jon Lester looks like the steal of the trade deadline. Since being acquired, Lester has been a revelation for the St. Louis Cardinals, allowing two or less runs in seven of...

NY Mets: Bob Apodaca, one of the great injury casualties

Injuries have ruined the careers of many wonderful athletes. Long before many surgeries like Tommy John were commonplace, athletes would suffer a torn ligament or something similar and see their careers flash before their eyes. One member of the New York Mets you may remember who suffered this poor fate is Bob Apodaca.

Dominant Giants not gaining any ground on Dodgers 'annoying'

SAN FRANCISCO -- Since stunning Walker Buehler and the Dodgers on "Sunday Night Baseball" on Sept. 5, the Giants have won 10 of 13 games. They swept a road trip through Denver and Chicago, split with the desperate San Diego Padres, and took two of three from the Atlanta Braves, the team likely to win the NL East.

Where Reds stand in playoff race with 11 games left

Reds, Pirates continue three-game series at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday. Time is running out for the Cincinnati Reds. Although the Reds rallied from a 5-0 deficit to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-5 on Monday night, the St. Louis Cardinals won their ninth straight game — 5-2 over the Milwaukee Brewers — to maintain a three-game lead in the race for the second wild card.

Wild Card fever: Here's what the Cardinals have to do to make the postseason

ST. LOUIS — While at times this season it may have looked improbable, the Cardinals have fought their way into the playoff hunt with just a handful of games left. Even though the Central Division crown is all but out of reach thanks to the impressive season from the Milwaukee Brewers, the Cardinals still have a chance at the second National League Wild Card spot.

The red-hot St. Louis Cardinals are finding their stride at the right time

The St. Louis Cardinals shouldn't be here, leading the race for the second and final wild card in the National League and certainly not by a suddenly comfortable margin. Just three weeks or so ago I was on local radio in St. Louis and the host was relating that it had been a rather desultory season for the Cardinals.

Brett Anderson's start for the Milwaukee Brewers against the Cardinals will likely be a 'short' stint as he returns from an injury

Left-hander Brett Anderson, sidelined since taking a liner off his pitching shoulder Sept. 1 in San Francisco, will return to the Milwaukee Brewers starting rotation Wednesday against the St. Louis Cardinals. It’s the first time the Brewers have needed a sixth starter since Anderson was injured. Anderson has thrown several...

Mariners Moose Tracks, 9/21/20: Salvador Perez, Jon Lester, and Shane Baz

Tyler Anderson with yet another dominant outing last night as the Mariners cruise to a 4-2 win against the Oakland Athletics. Congrats to Salvador Perez on setting a new single-season record for most homers by a catcher!. Jon Lester sets a record of his own as he records his 200th...

Reds comeback victory could be start of something special

The Cincinnati Reds trailed the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-0 in the third inning on Monday night, but a two-out walk to Jonathan India got the rally started. Kyle Farmer followed with a single, Nick Castellanos pounded a two-RBI double to center field, and Joey Votto played long ball to bring the Reds within a run.

Tyrone Taylor activated from the IL for the Milwaukee Brewers, Miguel Sanchez optioned to Nashville

After a month on the injured list, Tyrone Taylor is back for the Milwaukee Brewers. He was activated from the IL earlier today, with Miguel Sanchez being optioned back to Nashville. Taylor has been an excellent bench player and starter for the Brewers this season, posting a .245/.324/.453 batting line and 106 wRC+. He has played in 82 games and started 49, moving between the three outfield spots as needed. Taylor gets the start tonight as both Christian Yelich and Lorenzo Cain get nights off.

Tigers slide by White Sox to push win streak to 3

Detroit — The Tigers took down yet another first-place team Monday night, beating the Central Division-leading Chicago White Sox with a 4-3 comeback win before 12,884 at Comerica Park. Detroit has won three straight, having taken the last two games at Tampa Bay against the East Division-leading Rays. They also...
