A Marine vet took matters into his own hands when he disarmed a robber at a gas station in Arizona and even helped detain him until deputies got to the scene.
YUMA, Ariz. — Deputies credited a U.S. Marine Corps veteran Wednesday for disarming a would-be armed robber at a gas station in Yuma. Officials with the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that the incident happened around 4:30 a.m. at the Chevron gas station at 10747 E. North Frontage Rd.

On Tuesday, Yuma County Sheriff Leon Wilmot will be presenting the quick thinking former Marine, James Kilcer, with the Yuma County Sheriff Office Citizen’s Valor Award. Kilcer will also be honored with the Yuma County Local Hero Award on October 28, at the First Responders Day event along with 9/11 Ground Zero Police Officer Stacey Goodmen.
A U.S.Marine Corps veteran is being credited for stopping a robbery Wednesday after three people tried to hold up a gas station. The incident happened at a Chevron gas station near I-8 and Fortuna Road in Yuma on Wednesday. At around 4.30 a.m., three suspects dressed in black walked into the store. When one of the suspects pulled out a gun and aimed it at the store cashier, the Marine took action.
In a matter of seconds, a former Marine who was a customer inside a gas station convenience store disarmed and took down a man who entered wielding a gun. Though the man was pointing the gun at someone else, the Marine’s response was quick. A second man who entered at the same time as the man with the gun fled out the door.
An unarmed Marine veteran took down a gun-waving robber this week at an Arizona store, and the dramatic fight was caught on surveillance video. It happened Wednesday morning at the Chevron on E. North Frontage Road in Yuma, and the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office reports two of the three suspects remain at large.
