Pedro Pascal to Star in The Last of Us Video Game Adaptation at HBO

The Last of Us fans, meet your Joel. Pedro Pascal will play the lead character in HBO’s series adaptation of the popular video game, our sister site Deadline reports. Set two decades after the implosion of current-day society, The Last of Us will follow Joel, a tough survivor, who is hired to smuggle a 14-year-old girl named Ellie out of an “oppressive” quarantine zone, per the official synopsis. “What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”

The Last of Us 2 has been out for a good few months now, but players are still learning new things about it. When you first control Ellie during the start of the game, you'll be wandering around a pretty built-up survivor haven in Jackson. It has all the necessities you might expect and, owing in large to the attention to detail Naughty Dog put into The Last of Us 2, the whole situation feels wonderfully realistic.

The Last of Us on HBO Rumored to Have Offered Mahershala Ali Lead Role as Joel

HBO’s TV adaptation The Last of Us has reportedly offered actor Mahershala Ali the lead role of Joel. Should the rumor play out, this would be the first casting announcement of any kind to be attached to the HBO production since the show was greenlit back in November 2020. Whether it’s accurate or not, the casting rumor still leaves several other key characters without talent attached to them unless more announcements or rumors come to light.
