DENVER (AP) — Colorado Republican leaders have voted down a proposal from that would have allowed GOP nominees to be selected by a relatively small number of party members. The proposal would have allowed Republicans to opt out of the primary election and instead select nominees for federal offices, the governor and other posts through a caucus and assembly process.

A former high school student was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Friday after being convicted on 46 counts, including murder. 20-year-old Devon Michael Erickson and accomplice Maya McKinney killed one student and wounded eight others when they opened fire inside a Colorado classroom.
