Carpenters Apprentices Learn Diverse Skills at Training Center

RICHFIELD, Ohio — The Northeast Ohio Carpenters’ Training Center, which has more than 58,000 square feet of indoor training and 28,000 outdoors, is one of four in Ohio. Apprentices come to school one week at a time four times every 12 months during their four-year learning sessions. The rest of the time, they’re working for their contractors, receiving job-specific training.

California-based Helix Electric picks Goodyear for first manufacturing facility

GOODYEAR, AZ — California-based Helix Electric Inc. has plans to open its first manufacturing facility in Goodyear, the Arizona Commerce Authority announced Thursday. Helix Electric, one of the largest electrical contracting companies in the U.S., will open a 112,000-square-foot facility to manufacture and fabricate building components used in electrical construction work, the authority said. The electrical contractor also specializes in design-build and “highly complex” electrical projects across the U.S.

Registered Nurses Most in Demand Job in Ohio

That’s up 22,154 from the previous reporting period, and up 2,789 from the same period in 2020, according to The 18-county northeastern Ohio region, which includes Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties, have 99,273 online job postings according to the new data, up 7,851 from the previous reporting period. Compared to the same period last year, online job postings are down 3,843.

Coinciding with a surging growth plan, the parent company of Arrow Benefits Group bought a Sebastopol insurance benefits firm, it announced on Sept. 15. Aita and Associates has become Arrow Benefits of Petaluma. The acquisition that took place in May comes a week after parent Patriot Growth Insurance Services based in Pennsylvania reported a plan to recapitalize on its investments.

Remitly debuts on Nasdaq, plans for more hiring in Seattle and beyond

Seattle-based banking and remittance startup Remitly debuted on the Nasdaq on Thursday. The company, which is trading under the ticker symbol RELY, priced its stock at $43 on Wednesday, and the price jumped to over $53 before closing at $47.85. Remitly co-founder and COO Josh Hug said the company now has over 1,600 employees globally and plans to continue hiring in Seattle and elsewhere.

Love that beer? Its maker may not survive the pandemic

The pandemic has already put several craft breweries out of business and more could be at risk. One of the biggest threats to some of those beer makers still brewing is a slowdown in restaurant and bar sales as the lingering threat of Covid-19 has kept more people at home.
