COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Kamilla Cardoso is showing South Carolina’s inside game is much more than throw it down low to All-American Aliyah Boston. The 6-foot-7 Cardoso had team-high 18 points and 10 rebounds as the top-ranked Gamecocks used their sizeable height advantage to take down Memphis 79-54 on Saturday. Cardoso hit nine of 12 attempts, most a foot or two from the basket, and continued her surge for South Carolina, which opened 8-0 for a second straight year and sixth time in coach Dawn Staley’s 15 seasons. Hanne Thomsen closed out her 2022 cross-country season with a strong showing Saturday at the 17th annual Nike Cross Nationals invitational race in Portland, Oregon. In cold and windy conditions at the 5K track spread across Glendoveer Golf Course, the Montgomery sophomore finished 16th overall in a field of 195 elite girls runners from all over the country with a time of 17 minutes, 35.2 seconds — the best among sophomores in the field and California entries.

Women’s volleyball kicks off NCAA tournament with home win over Pepperdine

It may not have been their best, but it was enough. No. 5 Stanford women’s volleyball (25-4, 19-1 Pac-12) began their 2022 NCAA tournament campaign in Maples Pavilion on Friday night. In front of an excited home crowd, the Cardinal showed signs of dominance and, despite a brief stumble, recovered enough to defeat Pepperdine (19-11, 10-8 WCC) in four sets.

Covid-19 Pandemic Might Have Had The Same Impact On Teens’ Brains As Violence

According to a recent study, Stanford researchers found that the Covid-19 pandemic has been “particularly difficult” for adolescents after more than two years of social isolation during school closures, restrictions and poor access to mental healthcare services. Based on MRI scans of 163 children taken before and after the pandemic, the team observed that the ageing process of their brains accelerated and altered their brain structure far earlier than usual.
