There Are Other Ways for Blackhawks to Acquire Seth Jones

The Blackhawks opted to keep Caleb Jones over Calvin de Haan and Nikita Zadorov. The Blackhawks look to be all-in on acquiring Seth Jones somehow, whether it be via trade or by signing him next season. Regardless of how, they definitely made their intentions very clear when they decided to protect Caleb Jones. I don’t know what they see in Caleb, but there isn’t much of a sample size to go off of.

Why the Blackhawks shouldn’t trade for Seth Jones

The Chicago Blackhawks have salary cap space to use for the first time in a while and have been linked with spending a chunk of that on a defenseman. Now we don’t have a crazy amount of cap space but with the recent trade of Duncan Keith to the Edmonton Oilers, we have even more space and a spot open on the defence that needs to be filled.

This is not the defenseman you’re looking for

The rumors have been all over the place lately. Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Seth Jones reportedly wants to be traded and the Chicago Blackhawks have reportedly been aggressive in pursuing upgrades to their blue-line corps. It’s an easy connection to make given those circumstances but a more thorough inspection reveals...

The Blackhawks May Already Be the “Front-Runner” for Seth Jones

The Blackhawks’ interest in accelerating their rebuild with an elite level defenseman has been discussed loudly and often this offseason. And that was before they traded Duncan Keith to the Oilers. The draft remains one way to fill this need, but it’s certainly less sexy (and far less immediate/certain) than going after a true No. 1 defenseman like Seth Jones or Dougie Hamilton, to whom they’ve been connected all summer.

Seth Jones' Trade (Or Not) Will Be Determined Around Time of NHL Draft, Per Report

The Seth Jones saga carries on. Since it was leaked that he was ready to leave Columbus and test free agency, many teams have shown interest in the big defenseman. However, he's still under contract with the Blue Jackets through the upcoming season, so Jarmo Kekalainen has some time to figure out what the next steps will be.
