What's next for two Sullivan County school districts after defeat of merger proposal?

A month after a merger plan was rejected by voters, two Sullivan County school districts are likely to wait several months before testing the waters again. With a combined enrollment of about 600 students and falling, Livingston Manor and Roscoe school districts have been considering a merger. However, voters rejected the proposal in a straw vote in October.

State DPI report card results for Hamilton, Menomonee Falls school districts

Local school districts are evaluating the results of the most recent “report card” from the State Department of Public Instruction. In a news release, the DPI summarized what is assessed on the report cards and the grading scales on the reports. The most recent report cards were released on Nov. 15 and cover the 2021-22 school year, the first full year after the pandemic.

Court Rules School Districts in California Can’t Mandate Vaccines

A California appeals court ruled on Tuesday that only the state, and not individual school districts, can issue vaccine mandates for students. The ruling comes following a legal challenge to the San Diego Unified School District’s attempt to mandate COVID-19 vaccines for students ages 16 and older. It marks the first ruling by a state appeals court and will be binding on lower courts statewide unless overturned by the California Supreme Court or contradicted by another appeals court.

The investigation is continuing into the alleged used of racial slurs by Stanwood High School students during a Nov. 4 football game between Stanwood and Lakes. According to a Nov. 23 news release from the Stanwood-Camano School District, students, staff, parents, players, and spectators in the Stanwood-Camano and Clover Park school districts have been interviewed.
