Vancouver Whitecaps Departs Utah & Returns To Canada

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Vancouver Whitecaps have left Utah and returned to Canada following a three-and-a-half-month stint playing “home” games at Rio Tinto Stadium. The Caps called Utah home due to an immigration policy as a result of the global pandemic. However, after many, many weeks away from home, the Caps have returned to Vancouver.

RSL Notches Four-Point Week

Coming off of a 2-1 road loss to LAFC, Real Salt Lake returned home for two matches against opponents who were ahead of them in the MLS Western Conference standings. Sitting squarely in the seventh and final playoff spot, one point ahead of rival Portland, this was a crucial home-stand for the Claret & Cobalt.

The Colorado Rapids surprisingly fell flat on Saturday, a 3-0 loss at Real Salt Late a bit of a shock given their recent form. An own goal by Rapids goalkeeper William Yarbrough in the 14th minute set the tone for a frustrating night for the Rapids. Unbeaten in their last four games, the Rapids then conceded a 30th minute goal from Bobby Wood, essentially dooming them to the road loss.

Real Salt Lake: Jonathan Menendez is Patiently Waiting for His Chance

To say Real Salt Lake has been busy signing new talents is an understatement. In addition to Bobby Wood, another forward has arrived to make his mark for RSL. At the end of May, RSL signed 27-year-old Argentine winger Jonathan Menéndez. The Bueno Aires native has spent most of his career with Independiente, one of the most prolific teams in Argentina. During his tenure as a member of Los Diablos Rojos, he scored six goals in 24 appearances. Most recently, Menéndez was on loan with Club Atletico Talleres, wherein he made 70 appearances with 20 goals and ten assists.
