#SundayGunday: Rossi Rio Bravo

This week, we’re taking a closer look at the Rossi Rio Bravo. A rimfire lever-action in the style of an old-West classic, this .22 LR-chambered rifle would be a perfect way to introduce a junior hunter to plinking or varmint-hunting this holiday season. A polished-black receiver boasts a rail topside for the easy addition of an optic, though the standard buckhorn sighting system works great at reasonable distances. Learn more about this lever-action, complete with a German-Beechwood stock, in the video embedded above, hosted by Digital Associate Editor David Herman. MSRP: $403.78; rossiusa.com.

Dean Martin: King of Cool (2021)

“Dean Martin: King of Cool” is a new documentary about the celebrated actor, comedian, singer, movie/TV/recording star and member of the legendary Rat Pack. Directed by Tom Donahue, it offers a sympathetic and compelling 107-minute portrait of the entertainer that tries to find out what made the man tick and what he was guarding from the outside world. A “Rosebud” angle, drawing on CITIZEN KANE’s use of its subject’s deathbed utterance, is inserted tentatively at different points to try and find out what Dean’s “Rosebud” was and a plausible answer is provided late in the film by one of its main interviewees. The general consensus of the dozens of interviewees, some of whom knew and worked with him and many of whom didn’t, is that the façade he maintained was generally impenetrable. He did not want people to know him.

The Week Ahead in Beer: Black Friday takes on a whole new meaning

Welcome to an early edition of Week Ahead, as we want to make sure everyone is aware of what beers are available well in advance of Thanksgiving, when most breweries will be closed (see below for the exceptions). Despite being a holiday week, there are plenty of beer releases coming Friday, with some fun events built around some of those releases. We are definitely heading into the darkness of winter, which means the beers are getting darker, too. Yeah, it really is our favorite time of year!

Rossi Rio Bravo .22LR Rimfire Lever-Action Rifle Review

The Rossi Rio Bravo .22LR lever-action rifle is a respectable entry in a diminishing field of rimfires; here's a full review. As popular as the lever-action rifle has been in this country, you would think there would be more rimfire lever-gun options. But with the departure of Ruger, Marlin and Winchester from this segment over the years, we’re left with just three: various Henrys; the Browning BL-22; and the subject of this review, the Rossi Rio Bravo.

Dean Martin: King of Cool

An in-depth biography exploring Dean Martin’s career, including his complicated relationships. If all you know of Dean Martin is the guy cracking up in clips from vintage celebrity roasts on YouTube, there’s so much more to appreciate. A new documentary profile of the legendary Rat Packer unpacks this singular talent’s extraordinary career, including a half-century as a chart-topping recording artist, as half of one of the greatest comedy duos ever (as straight man to Jerry Lewis), as movie star and as an indelible TV celebrity through his variety show and roasts. Among those singing his praises: Angie Dickinson, Bob Newhart, Carol Burnett and admirers including RZA and modern cool cat Jon Hamm. Followed by some of his best-known movies: 1953’s Lewis & Martin comedy The Caddy (9:30/ET) and 1959’s timeless Howard Hawks Western Rio Bravo (11:15/ET) opposite John Wayne.

South Texas Coalition Sues Army Corps of Engineers For Issuing Permit to Rio Grande LNG and Rio Bravo Pipeline That Violates the Clean Water Act

Brownsville, TX - Yesterday, Sierra Club, Shrimpers and Fishermen of the RGV, and Save RGV from LNG filed a lawsuit against the Army Corps of Engineers for reissuing a Clean Water Act section 404 “dredge and fill” permit for the Rio Grande LNG export terminal and the associated Rio Bravo Pipeline proposed for the Port of Brownsville. The groups argue that the permit falls short of legal requirements to avoid and compensate for impacts to wetlands, as required under section 404 of the Clean Water Act.

Analyzing the field ahead of the first public round of the NM IPA Challenge

The haze has overtaken the clear. After years of West Coast-style IPA dominance, this year’s final 16 entries in the New Mexico IPA Challenge are primarily of the hazy New England style. So can one of them become the first winner of an in-person NMIPAC? Rio Bravo’s hazy Dice Roll IPA won the take-home edition last year, but the hoppy WC behemoths of yore have always come out on top in past years.
