The Mets didn’t fix their starting pitching problems Friday afternoon. But they at least took a step forward in an attempt to remedy the issues. A week before the July 30 trade deadline, they landed 41-year-old left-hander Rich Hill from the Rays in exchange for injured reliever Tommy Hunter and minor league catcher Matt Dyer.

CLEVELAND — Though starting pitching seems to be a need for the Rays, they Friday dealt veteran left-hander Rich Hill to the Mets. The return, reported first by the New York Post, is veteran reliever Tommy Hunter, who is currently on the 60-day injured list with a back issue that has sidelined him since late May, and Class A catcher/infielder/outfielder Matt Dyer, the Mets’ 2020 fourth-round pick from Arizona.
